“It’s getting worse, huh?”

“It’s not getting better,” he replied hoarsely.

“You need to take some more of this medicine. You’re still very hot.”

“Thank you, but I feel horrible.”

“This fever is giving you a li’l sense of humor,” I chuckled.

I handed him the medicine.

“I need to check the girls’ homework and…” he moved to get out of the bed.

“I’ve already taken care of that. They are laying out their clothes for tomorrow and then taking a shower. We will watch a movie before they go to bed. They came in to speak, but you were sleeping.”

“I left instructions with Anna to push back this week’s appointments to next week. I’ve never felt this bad. Hopefully, it will pass,” Morris said.

“It will. It’s probably a virus.”

“Can you call the girls?”

“Skye, Fee, your dad is awake,” I called out.

Both girls appeared in the door almost immediately.

“Daddy, how are you feeling?” Skye asked after moving closer to the bed.

“I feel sick, but it’s just a virus. It will pass,” Morris assured her.

“Daddy, are you contagious cause I can’t get sick. I have things to do,” Fee said.

“You are so rebarbative,” Skye said.

“No, I’m not!” Fee whined.

“Yes, you are. Daddy is sick, and all you can do is think about yourself…”

“Daddy, tell Skye to stop calling me a barber…”

“I said rebarba…” Skye started.

“Cut it!” Morris’s voice boomed. “Go and get ready for bed. Make sure you take your vitamins. Wash your hands after you leave out of here, okay?” Morris instructed.

“Yes, sir,” they both responded.

“We are okay with Ms. Cam, Daddy,” Fee assured him.

“Yeah, she’s taking good care of us,” Skye added.

“Okay, love you, munchkins,” Morris said.

“Love you too,” they both returned before leaving the room.

I turned to leave behind them.

“Cam…”

“Yes?” I turned back to answer.
