I wanted him to finish his sentence, but Darron and Drew danced past us and encouraged Morris to join.

Morris smiled, “I’ll be right back.”

“Okay,” I smiled even though I was disappointed he had to let me go.

He followed behind Darron and Drew doing the same smooth, choreographed movements. I knew he was in a fraternity because I’d seen some of his paraphernalia. A few other men from the crowd joined them as they strolled around the dance floor. I couldn’t take my eyes off Morris. He was sexy as hell. His all-black outfit fit him like it was made specifically for him. It hugged his biceps and thick thighs in the right places. He licked his lips then winked at me when they strolled past. I felt like one of those women in the audience at an old school concert that passed out when the lead singer sang to her.

“Yeah,” I heard Vette say next to me, “That’s why I had to go ahead and lock that down. They sexy as hell, right?”

“Yes,” I said, still watching Morris.

“I’ve never met anyone Moe is dating. When did y’all meet?” Vette said.

“We met two years ago.”

“At a party at his boss’ house?” Vette asked.

I looked at her, “yes.”

“Oh…ok. He’s mentioned you.”

“He has?”

“Umm humm…he’s grown so he can speak for himself, but I’m glad you came to celebrate with him tonight. Take care of my Moe; he’s an exceptional man,” Vette said.

“He’s an exceptional man and father. If he’ll let me, I will take great care of him,” I winked.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” Vette laughed and high fived me.

It had been years since I strolled with my brothers. I remembered playing that Gucci Mane song over and over again, trying to learn the steps to that stroll. Once we finally got it down, we debuted it at a homecoming party and had all the other frats trying to make up moves to it. I left the dance floor and took Cam’s hand and led her back up to the VIP section.

Although I enjoyed strolling with my brothers, the dance happened just as I settled on telling Cam how I felt. Holding her in my arms while she rested against my chest felt right. It felt perfect. I was tired of tucking my feelings in, and I needed her to know how I felt.

I led her to a couch in the corner of the VIP section to give us a little privacy. I needed to finish my thought and I needed her to hear me loud and clear.

“Would you like anything else to drink?” the bottle girl asked as soon as we were settled.

“I’ll take some water,” Cam said.

“Make that two bottled waters,” I agreed.

She smiled and walked away.

“Are you having a good time?”

“I am. Thank you for inviting me,” she smiled.

“Thank you for coming. So what I was saying downstairs was…”

“Moe! Look who’s in town!” Darron said, pointing to an old friend who’d just entered the VIP area.

“Leo!” I stood to give him a hug.

“Happy birthday, Bro!” Leo said.

“Thanks! Leo, this is Cam. Cam, Leo.”
