“I liked that about her,” Jo confessed with a shy smile.
Daniel returned her smile. The two stood for some time staring at each other, neither making a move.
“Well, I’ll see you at work tomorrow, boss,” Jo finally spoke.
“See you tomorrow, deputy,” he said, moving to open her door so that she could get settled.
“Bye.”
“Bye.”
With that, Daniel closed the door, and Jo drove off, looking in her rearview mirror at the man who stood in the same position watching the car. A broad smirk broke out across her lips, and the flutters of butterflies settled in her chest. She wondered how she would be able to maintain just being friends with the man if this was her reaction every time she was around him.
