Savannah reached over and gave her a hand a squeeze. “I hope he knows how lucky he is to have met you.”

“After not seeing each other for years, it’s amazing how things have worked out.”

Emma returned to the table as their food was being served, and the conversation turned to more pleasant things.

That night, in honor of Henry and his family, the women of the cove put together a beach party. Barbequed chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, and steaks were available on the grill. Potato salad, pasta salad, a couple of green salads, and deviled eggs were followed with brownies and cake and watermelon. A few curious guests from the Inn were asked to join them.

Seeing everyone together, knowing three generations had enjoyed good times here at the cove, Charlotte knew she didn’t want to go far. Somehow, when the summer ended and Gran and John returned, she’d make a business of her own succeed.

Shane came up beside her and put his arm around her. “Nice evening, huh?”

“Yes,” she said. “It’s so special to have your family here, Shane. They’re fantastic.”

He grinned. “That’s what they’re saying about you.” He bent down and whispered in her ear, “I love you.”
