“Yeah, no you’re not driving back by yourself all the way from New York to Mississippi, Savannah.”

“Hmm, you must be confused Joshua. I did not ask for your permission and I don’t need it.”

“I know you don’t Savvy. I’m sorry if I am acting like you do. I just think that is a long drive to take by yourself.”

“It is Joshua, but I have been taking care of myself for a long time and believe it or not I can manage to drive back here by my lonesome.”

He takes a deep breath. I hear all the construction site noises in the background, and I remember that he is going to be working late tonight.

“Savannah, I still have a long night ahead of me, when we go out tomorrow, I think we need to talk. Can you just promise me you’ll have an open mind, please?”

“I’ll be open minded. Are you sure you wanna go out tomorrow? I mean you are working late, and you might just wanna sleep in tomorrow.”

“Please, I don’t care how long I work tonight I would not miss seeing you tomorrow.”

“Fine.”

“I’ll bring the keys to the house tomorrow. Don’t forget jeans and sneakers.”

“You already told me that Joshua.”

Every time we have gone out you’ve looked amazing, and I know you’ll feel like you're in sneakers and jeans and will end up looking like a model. So, I just want to make sure you wear something comfortable, and you don’t mind possibly getting dirty.

“Thank you, Joshua”

“No need to thank me for the truth.”

“I have to go Savvy; I’ll text you and I’ll see you tomorrow. Bye.”

“Ok bye.”

Once we get off the phone, I start to pack the room up, take a shower and throw on some sweats and a tee shirt. I wonder what kind of date he is taking me on tomorrow where he keeps reiterating for me to dress down I can’t even begin to guess. My stomach growls and I realize that it’s been hours since I shared lunch with Joshua, and I am starving. I go to find my shoes so I can go grab something quick when there is a knock at my hotel door. I look out the peephole and there is a delivery guy there, I grab Brianna out of my purse and put it in the back waistband of my sweats and open the door.

“Ms. Errington?”

“Yes.”

He hands me the box and flowers and a gift bag and walks away. I close the door and lock it, grab my phone and send Joshua a text.

He responds simply, “Enjoy.”

Asshole

I open the box because it smells heavenly and find crab cake, cheesy mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. My mouth is watering as I walk to the couch to eat this delicious meal complete with a slice of double chocolate cake. I look at the beautiful orchids he’s sent and the gift bag I am too scared to open and shake my head. Who am I kidding, I am Joshua’s and I know he knows it. It is not about how much money he spends on me it’s how he continues to take care of me after only knowing me for such a short time.

I grab my phone before I start eating because this meal requires my undivided attention, and reply thank you. I ask him who all is working late with him and it’s just the brothers. I order pizza, bread sticks, wings, and soda and have it delivered to the job site.

Finally looking in the bag to find the peach lemonade he always gets me in two large bottles.

I don’t bother getting a cup and just take it to the head. How did he get this meal to me where the food is hot like it is fresh from the kitchen and the drink is cold to the point of freezing? Losing myself in enjoying my meal forty minutes pass when a text comes through to which I simply reply enjoy. A smile slowly spreads because turn bout is fair play. Afterward I feel like a stuffed Thanksgiving turkey, grabbing a blanket I lay down on the sofa. The chime from my phone startles me, it simply says good night hatima yangu. He sends me that when he knows I am too tired to try to figure out what that means. Replying good night, I make sure to plug my phone up this time and fall asleep full and happy.
