“So, what did you want to talk to me about, son?” He asks after a few minutes of walking in silence.

“With this new deal happening tonight I think it’s time the guys and I took on more responsibility,” I say as we make our way through the hallway.

“I’m glad to hear that, Clayton. You boys are adults now and we believe that it's time for you to start learning exactly how to run the business, instead of just heading the runs,” he tells me with a grin. “We are going to need you four to take over some of the main work, as well as running some of the contracts whilst we work on establishing our new product.”

The way he talks about selling women like they are just another drug for them to peddle makes me want to pound my fists into his face until he can never utter another word.

“That sounds like a lot of work, but I know that we’re ready,” I say with a nod, clenching my fists behind my back to stop me from acting on my thoughts.

We turn the last corner in the hallway and I start to lead him towards the room where Kenzi is waiting.

“Good, we can talk more about it tomorrow and figure out all the details. Now was there anything else you wanted to discuss, son?” He asks as we reach the door.

“Yeah, I just wanted to show you a couple of things we’ve been working on. I wanted you to take a quick look over them before we bring them to the table,” I tell him as I open the door to the room.

“Sure, I can take a look for you before we head back,” he says, walking into the room still looking at me.

I stand in the doorway and watch as Kenzi rises from the desk with a grin, my dad turning around to finally notice her.

“Mr Maguire,” she says, taking a step towards him, her grin growing at the look of shock and confusion on his face. “It seems we have a few things to discuss.”

“Clayton, what the hell is this?” He asks me, pointing at Kenzi.

I don’t answer him, I don’t even look his way. Instead, I nod at Kenzi, step back into the hallway and close the door.

I heave out a deep breath, leaning against the wall, listening to their muffled voices come through the wall for a few minutes. The voices start getting louder, my dad shouting something before there’s a crash. I hear Kenzi’s giggles, becoming louder before she swings the door open with a huge smile on her face.

“One down, three to go,” she says, pointing her thumb over her shoulder.

I look behind her to the crumpled form of my dad unconscious on the floor, a chair toppled over beside him.

“Well, come on, Clay, get in here. I haven’t got all night,” she says, stepping back and sweeping her arm into the room.

I make my way into the room, righting the chair before grabbing my dad and slinging him over my shoulders.

“Well, I suppose that’s one good thing about having you four around,” she says, leaning against the wall next to the door. Still smiling as I make my way towards her.

“What’s that then?” I ask her just before I reach the doorway, my own lips tilting slightly as I can’t help but smile back at her.

“I don’t have to do any of the heavy lifting in order to get these arseholes to where I need them to be,” she says. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to drag an unconscious man when you're my height? I am way too short for that shit.”

The smile playing at my lips widens as I laugh at her statement, her smile wide despite her outraged tone at the injustice of it.

“I’ll carry all the bodies you want me to, Tink,” I tell her with a chuckle as I step through the door.

“Yeah, yeah, Clay. Real smooth,” she says, rolling her eyes. “Just carry this one to your car and get him back to mine. Xave will help you chain him up in the playroom.”

She kicks herself away from the wall and I grab her arm, pulling her body flush against mine.

“Be careful, Kenzi. Don’t do anything reckless,” I tell her, the smile dropping from my face to show her how serious I am. “Stick to the plan and get the hell out of here. Okay?”

“I know what I’m doing, Clay, I’ll be fine, really,” she says as she steps away from me. “Now go, I’ve got to go and let Wyatt know I’m ready for daddy number two.”

She makes a shooing motion with her hands, following me out as I step out of the room and start making my way towards the back of the house. I stop when I reach the end of the hallway, turning to catch one last glimpse of her and smile as I watch her skip around the corner like she’s having the time of her life.
