“You’re wrong.” There was no hesitation in Oz’s retort. “About Luna. About the entire situation. But I’m glad you didn’t hide it. You’re right, we won’t work together again.” He disconnected, cutting Jake off.

I wanted to curl up in a ball and hide.

“This is on him, not you.” Oz settled his hand on my knee.

The touch was comforting, but not enough to erase the situation. “You just lost a business contact because of me.”

“No. He’s gone because of himself, not you. You understand that.”

“I guess.” Not really. I heard the sincerity and command in Oz’s words, but if this was Day Two of Luna is an Evil Mastermind, it didn’t feel like it was going to fade into the background.

Oz squeezed my leg gently. “I’m here because I want to be. Because you’re worth it. Not because we’re fucking. Because you deserve more.”

No one deserved just for existing. Not beyond the essentials. I didn’t know how to argue that, though. “I guess.”
