This was the part that hurt for me, especially given it fell so closely in line with what Easton had done. “I found him in bed with my best friend at the time.”

“Ouch.” Landon landed hard on thech. “But you and Nigel didn’t get together at that point?”

“I was back with Lisa,” Nigel said. “She and I had stayed friends, and we wanted to try marriage again. It was more of anI’m lonely and so are youkind of agreement. Open relationship, and we were both fucking anyone but each other.”

“Or Megan.”

I’d wondered at the time, but it had been so many years that I’d given up on finding out the answer. “Why didn’t you sleep with me then?”

“Really?” Nigel looked at me in disbelief.

What was I missing? “Really. You’ve never told me.”

“Because he wasn’t going to fuck you unless he could have you for good.” Apparently Landon had figured it out. “And he was already married.”

Nigel shrugged. “What he said.”

Oh. It made so much sense when they explained it, but I’d never understood until now. “That’s part of why you want to take this slowly.”

Nigel nodded.

“So, Nigel divorces, Megan’s already with Easton, which ended less than a week ago, and that brings us to now.” Landon wrapped up my story for me.

Nigel and I belonged together. We really always had. But, “Now is a bad time for me to make a commitment.”

“I don’t want her to have any regrets. That’s why the list is important.” Nigel downed half his beer in a single swallow.

The dining room light reflected off amber glass as Landon twirled his bottle on the table. “And I’m the lucky guy who gets to help with theno regrets.”

“That is, if you’re still interested after all of that.” I wouldn’t blame Landon for walking out after that story. I couldn’t even keep a fiancé, and he had zero obligation to me.

“If I tell youno, will you ask someone else?” Landon asked.

Like who? “My friends would help with a lot of things on here. The sexy stuff… Most of the guys I know are either in relationships, or are friends with my brother.”

“He’s friends with your brother.” Landon nodded at Nigel.

“That’s different. He’s… Nigel.” Way to be specific, me.

Landon raised his brows. “Not sure any of that answers my question.”

Right. “I honestly hadn’t considered anyone else. I don’t want to ask another person to help.” But why not? “That night at my bachelorette party, I know you were probably just being nice, which is as sexy as you dancing around naked, but I enjoyed your company.”

“This may surprise you, but you’re not the first bride-to-be I’ve encountered in my line of work whose fiancé made her cry.” Landon had a very matter-of-fact tone, but there was a hint of anger underneath. “Youarethe first one I’ve ever stayed with and listened to and risked falling asleep with.”

Wow. I… Really? Wow. That made my words flow more easily. “The sexy stuff on the list is no-commitment, but the entire idea, I think you’ll make it more fun. So if you sayno, I guess I could find someone else, but I don’t have anyone in mind.”

“And the deal is, we do the list, you, me, and Nigel, and everything list related is on the table. When it’s done, I have memories, so do you, and the two of you ride happily off into the sunset?” Landon asked.

Why didn’t I like the sound of that? The idea of forever with Nigel was right. Nothing about that made me recoil or made my gut churn or made me nervous. I wanted to be with him for the rest of my life, even now. And I loved the idea of working my way through this list with two men who wanted to have some fun with it.

So why did my answer to Landon’s question die on my lips?

Why was Megan hesitating? Could Landon tell? The guy seemed pretty observant, so I suspectedyes.
