And there’s always the chance that the numbers are wrong. Probability only goes so far.

But if I’m not wrong, then that puts Michelle at risk.

I get dressed in the clothes Michelle picked out for me, musing over how now would be the perfect time for a pick-me-up.

And by pick-me-up, I mean a no-hands psychic orgasm.

A rush of heat flushes my cheeks at just the thought of it, and a soft chuckle filters into my awareness.

Now’s hardly the time for such things,Rhygel says.

Right. And apparently no other time this week wasn’t a good time either.

Your friend will be here soon.

I know.I grab my bag and phone and head to the living room to wait for Michelle. Are you sure you don’t want more demons in my head for this? The numbers say it should be a huge casualty, probably more than one demon can handle.

I can handle quite a bit, Lily. It’s safest if we only possess you one at a time.

Safer? What do you mean? You all are constantly saying how strong I am. And I handled all four of you without even knowing it before. So I don’t see how—

It’s safer for us, love.

Oh. I couldn’t very well argue with that, or the fluttering in my chest that Rhygel had used a pet name.

Love.

I could get used to that.

Michelle’s knocks pull me from daydreaming about that further and we head off to the train station in her car.

Laurel Cove is only a two-hour train ride to the Hamptons. Two hours longer than if I’d told her not to go and showed up through the soul plane just when the mass casualty event happened.

But Rhygel insisted I attend. He wanted to be there the moment it began and not rely on his demonic abilities to pull him there when the time arose. He said if he waited until he felt it, other demons would feel it too, and we’d have to fight over the souls.

And I was happy to oblige him when it came to that.

I still wasn’t happy about Michelle attending.

I tried everything I could all week long to get her to lose interest. Nothing worked, and in the end, I think she started getting suspicious.

Michelle has a car waiting for us at the train station. A nice one, almost as nice as the town car I saw the vamp queen blowing her king in.

“The Richies can smell phonies and gold diggers a mile away. So I do my best to look the part and stay quiet.”

“You? Stay quiet? I doubt that.”

“Hey, now. That’s not nice. Completely true, but not nice.” Michelle grins at me and we pile into the back of the car.

The driver seems to know where we’re going without asking, and in less than twenty minutes, we’re pulling up to an absolutely gargantuan house along the beach.

Three stories and multiple sprawling wings, this house isn’t a mansion, it’s not an estate, it’s a damn zip code!

Michelle and I share a glance.

“Are you sure about this?” I ask.

She blows out a breath. “Nope. But we’re here and dressed, so why not enjoy ourselves?”
