Page 26 of Two Bosses For Her

“Oh, come on,” he urges as he leans closer to me, “you must have done something.”

He’s looking at me with a smirk that I want to slap right off of his face, but I refrain. Instead, I smirk back at him.

“I watched some murder shows and documentaries so that I’d know how to get away from creeps like you.”

His smile fades just a hair but he doesn’t stop staring at me, so I shrug my shoulders and gesture towards my screen.

“I have work to do.”

This time I leave no room for interpretation in my tone, and he finally turns to leave. Once he’s out of earshot I let out a breath that I didn’t even realize I’d been holding, and relief washes over me. Man, that guy just makes my skin crawl. Watching him walk away I can’t help but wonder if he had been watching me or my place again and that’s why he was asking me all those questions. I shudder at the thought and then shake my head, not wanting to think about it.

What if he saw me with James and David? If he did, he could tell everyone at the company. Not only would it make me look like I’m just trying to sleep my way up the corporate ladder, but it would reflect poorly on James and David as well. I can’t let that happen!

Even if he had been watching me and saw us together though, he wouldn’t be able to say anything about it, I guess. He would have to explain why he’d been there watching me in the first place, and then he’d have to admit to being guilty of stalking me. Satisfied that my little triste with the men isn’t at risk of being exposed, I go back to my work and focus on that.

By the end of the day, Jeff and his intrusive questioning are not even an afterthought in my mind. I’d been so focused on my work, in fact, that I almost didn’t realize it was time to go home. I send off one last email for the day and pack my things up, and then I head back outside to my car to head home. As I approach my car I frown, and my pace slows as my gaze settles on the windshield.

There’s a large envelope tucked under my wiper blade, no writing or anything on it. I narrow my eyes as I pick it up, heart rate quickening. I look around and see no one there, so I get into my car and lock the door to open it. When I do, my heart sinks. Inside the envelope is a single photo of me, standing in front of my window wearing nothing but my negligee.

“What the fuck?”

Okay, this is the last straw, I have to go to the police. Immediately I tear out of the parking lot and head to the station to let them know what happened. There has to be something they can do, right?

As it turns out though, they’re about as useful as a condom in a nunnery. Within a couple of minutes of speaking to them I’m told that since I have no proof of anything, they can’t do anything.

“What do you mean?” I snap, absolutely shocked. “You’re the police! Why can’t you do anything?”

“Because ma’am, you have no evidence other than that photograph, and for all we know it was taken from the street. Just keep your shades closed. Problem solved.”

I scoff and turn to leave, gob smacked that they don’t seem to care one bit. How can they claim to protect and serve if they won’t even get off their asses to do something about someone sneaking pictures of me?

I drive home madder than a wet hornet, knowing in the back of my mind that it just had to be that creep, Jeff. Who else would it be? There were too many coincidences for it to be someone else. But, like the cops said; without proof nothing can be done.

I guess I’ll have to come up with some proof.

Lily

Istill can’t believe what happened, but I decide that while I’m not sure what to do about it, I definitely need to talk to James and David. Not only is it creepy as fuck, but it involves them too so they deserve to know if their privacy has possibly been violated. Plus, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t feeling a bit worried about being around and working with Jeff. How could I not feel uncomfortable after what happened?

When I get into work the next day I immediately go and see James and David to talk to them, closing the office door behind me. I must look worried because as soon as I do, they both frown and step closer, looking worried.

“Lily?” James asks, shrugging, “What’s going on?”

David joins him and leans against the corner of the desk with his arms crossed, tilting his head. “Talk to us. Did something happen?”

“No. Well, yes. I don’t know! Yes, something happened, but I don’t know what and I’m not sure what to do about it.”

I take a deep breath and pull out the envelope I found on my car, looking up at them both.

“Yesterday when I left work, I found this tucked under my wiper blade on my windshield.”

I hold up the envelope in my hands but don’t give it to them yet. I need to get everything out before they open it up and shit hits the fan.

“I have a feeling I know who did it… Jeff has been bothering me here at work and doesn’t really leave me alone. I’m pretty sure I saw him by my apartment, but I didn’t get a good enough look to see for sure. And then yesterday at work he kept asking me questions about my weekend and what I did, and he really seemed to know more than he let on. Looking me up and down and acting like I was hiding something from him. Anyway, I talked to the police but they said that because I have no proof, they can’t do anything.”

At this point I hand them the envelope, and James opens it up first. I see the very second he gets a glance of the picture because his jaw tenses up and his face turns red. He glares over at me and huffs, shaking his head.
