David takes her to the copy room and shows her the equipment, pointing to where the differing types of paper are located for any type of print job. I watch as he shows her computer and desk, sitting exactly in the middle of the foyer, adjacent to both mine and David’s offices.
Lily takes a seat, quickly moving her fingers over the keyboard, making the monitor come to life with her profile. David is sitting on the corner of her desk as she does things with the computer. He corrects her now and then, but overall, I think she’s got a fantastic understanding of what we need and expect.
“Lily,” I ask, “can you come with me please?”
She looks up and nods, gathering her items, “Sure.”
I take her into the filing room to introduce her to our system, which is a mess. “I’m sorry to put this at your feet so early on, but we really need help organizing this, this whatever you wanna call it.”
“Mm, hmm,” She looks around the room with her bottom lip sucked in, God that drives me wild! “I’d say it’s a mess, definitely a mess,” she nods her head and smiles at me.
“Can you fix it?” I ask.
“I can fix it,” she says and writes it in her notebook.
“Alright then, I’ll leave it to your trusty hands to make sense of this nonsense,” I say to her with an air of authority. “I want to show you the way we make travel arrangements for either David or myself.”
I lead her over to her desk and take a seat at her chair, moving the mouse to get apps downloaded for her to easily make the arrangements. Opening her Office email account, I show her the ways we book flights and hotels, always aiming for the lesser cost.
Lily smiles and says, “I got it boss.”
We make it through the day without a hint of the interaction between us until I stand and she goes to sit in her seat. My arm accidentally brushes against hers and a bolt of fiery electricity flows through me.
She looks up, smiling and sends me a playful wink as she takes her seat behind the monitor.
It’s going to be a work hazard.
I’m going to have trouble keeping it in my pants.

Lily
As exhausted as I feel, I’m absolutely loving this new gig! Kicking my heels off and flopping down on my overstuffed chaise, I reach for the phone, but decide against it.I’ll call her in a bit.
Mom would want to know how my first day went.
It’s definitely going to be a challenge. But I don’t mind it. I need a job that has some level of difficulty if I’m ever going to grow and be taken seriously in this ‘man’s world’ of positions.
Yeah, sadly it still is basically a man’s world, at least in the corporate sense. Even at my new place of employment, I’ve yet to meet another female. But, there are my new bosses, who intrigue me so.
Pulling my fatigued body up from the chaise, I amble into the kitchen for a glass of wine. Pouring myself a glass, I think about the newness of the position and my new bosses.
James’s face comes into focus as I take a sip of the wine, leaning against the counter. He has a strong, but serious nature about himself.
No quarrel about his hotness either! Not from me.
Reminiscing about the impromptu sex between us the other night, I remember how his hands feel roaming the curves of my frame, strong yet gentle. He’s a man that knows what he wants. A serious determination on his part.
That night, the night of sex, James seemed free and confident, but today at work, I watch as he had some difficulty being around me. He would watch carefully as David showed me around, helping me gain an understanding of what the position actually entails.
Paradoxical.
A fleeting thought crosses my mind as I turn from the counter and go to my bedroom to change. I ponder the thought of me and him together. As a couple. Would it even work?
I shake my head as I set the glass on the bedside table, turning the lamp on. Get serious gal. Getting together with a boss, or a co-worker, is a taboo sort of thing. If I’m after a bigger stake in a company, I have to keep my eyes on that and not the crotch of an employer.
And there was Michael.
