“Me.” She stared him down. “And the fact that you don’t care about her disappearance and you’ve done nothing but threaten me makes me all the surer of it.”

“Will you leave me alone if I tell you my alibi?”

“You’d do that?” Damon asked.

Boone snorted. “You two are more annoying than those cops. I just want you off my back.”

“Tell us,” Ariana said.

“Not here.” He pointed to a coffee shop across the street. “Meet me there.”

More caffeine was the last thing Ariana needed, but she’d drink a gallon of it if that was what it would take for Boone to finally pony up the truth.

“Do you think he’ll actually tell us where he was?” Damon asked in the car.

“I’m sure it’ll be a lie. He clearly kidnapped her, but we have no idea where he’s holding her. They don’t have a vacation home or anything like that.”

Damon parked at the cafe. “Looks like we’re about to find out.”

Inside, Boone was already ordering his drink.

Ariana got an herbal tea, hoping to calm her nerves.

Once their orders were ready, they sat on a couch across from Boone, who was scrolling on his phone.

“Where were you that night?” Ariana asked.

“Not so fast,” Boone said.

She wanted to throw her tea at him. “What now?”

“You two need to sign this NDA. Tell me your email addresses so I can send them to you.”

Ariana exchanged an is-he-for-real glance with Damon, but they complied. She just wanted the information.

“I can’t believe you’re making us sign a non-disclosure agreement,” Damon said.

“You’re getting restricted information.” He didn’t look up from his phone. “Sent. Sign those digitally, and then I’ll talk.”

Ariana bit back a sarcastic comment as she looked for the email.

Boone tapped the table next to his couch. “You just have to click the link and type your names. Doesn't need to take this long.”

“I’ve never filled one of these out in a coffee shop before,” Damon said, irritation in his tone.

“It’s no more complicated than doing it in an office.”

Boone would be lucky to leave without Ari’s tea all over him at the rate he was going. How Rita had managed to stay married to him without committing a felony was beyond her.

Once the forms were completed, it took a few moments for him to get the notifications. Then he put his phone away.

“Are you going to tell us now?” Ariana asked.

“You’re legally bound to secrecy.”

“Oh, is that what the forms were for?” she asked.

He glared at her. “Are you going to take this seriously?”
