“You wouldn’t feel that way if he was abusive toward you,” Rita said. “He treats you like a princess. Do you know how hard it was always listening to you brag about him spoiling you while I had to go home to a temperamental jerk?”
“You could’ve started the divorce process before he plotted your abduction.”
“And single-handedly ruin my family’s business? Have you forgotten I married him to save my dad’s career? His business would’ve sunk otherwise, and my entire family would’ve had to move into the slums.”
“So what you’re saying is that you’d make yourself miserable to protect your family?” Lia asked. “It’s the same thing.”
“No, because my dad didn’t do anything wrong. He’s not like Boone.”
“Your dad guilted you into marrying someone horrible.”
“The Fuentes family name would’ve been shamed. I did my part to prevent that.”
“Like I said, same thing.”
“Not even close!”
“Enough!” Ariana said. “This isn’t helping anything. We need to find Maya and Olivia.”
“How far is this place?” Rita asked.
“We still have a ways to go. I’m going to see if Damon discovered anything yet.”
“What are you going to do if we get there and still don’t have an address?” Lia asked.
“I’ll go around every gate until I find them.”
“Someone might shoot you for trespassing,” Lia said. “People out that far can be crazy.”
“Says the person who would cover for her husband,” Rita muttered.
Ariana turned up the music loud enough that nobody could speak over it. Then she texted Damon.
Ariana: Making progress?
Damon: I think I have an address. Almost didn’t find it because it belongs to his stepsister.
Ariana: Text it to me.
Damon: Charles and I are going to drive out there. You mind waiting?
Ariana: Yes! There’s no time.
Damon: I figured you’d say that. Do you have weapons?
Ariana: A pocketknife and some spray.
Damon: Promise me you’ll be careful.
Ariana: Always. You bringing anything?
Damon: I have a knife and Charles has a pistol.
Ariana: Hurry!
Damon: We are.
Ariana: We might need that gun.
