But no Maya or Olivia.

However, there was a hallway. It could lead to one of them.

She quickly memorized the layout, killed her light, and walked through the maze of equipment. Came to the hall. Felt around.

It went to the left. She followed it, keeping her palms against the wall. Waiting to bump into a box. Or a body. She shoved that thought from her mind. With Ryan involved it wasn’t impossible, but she had to believe the twins were okay.

There was no other option.

Her fingertips brushed something poking out from the wall. A door frame.

This could be it.

She felt around. Found the knob.

Her heart nearly exploded out of her chest as she twisted it.

It turned.

She pushed. The door opened.

Something made a squeaking noise. Then a gasp sounded.

Ariana turned on her flashlight. The room was bare, with a tile floor and a thin, stained mattress in the middle. But that wasn’t all.

Maya shivered in the far corner.

No, not Maya. She had long hair, a nose ring, and torn clothes. Not to mention she was covered in bruises and dried blood.

“Olivia?”

She nodded, held her hands up in a defensive position.

“I’m a friend of Maya’s. My name’s Ariana and I’m here to help you.” She shined the light on herself. Then she took slow, measured steps and held out her free hand. “Is that okay?”

Olivia nodded again. “You know my sister?” she asked, her voice scratchy.

“She’s looking for you. I think Ryan might have her.”

“No.” Olivia’s eyes widened. “How?”

“She posed as a nanny to find you.”

Olivia recoiled. “She what?”

“Let me help you. Maya can explain everything herself.”

“But Ryan—”

“The only thing you need to think about is getting out of here. My friends are waiting outside. We can drive you to a hospital.”

Tears shone in her eyes. “Really?”

“Yes, but we need to hurry.”

The door slammed. “Not so fast,” said a male voice.

Olivia whimpered.
