They didn’t ask me a single question, not even Emma.

“You seem better,” I told her. “Now that you got all of that off your chest.”

“I feel better,” she said. “I was tired of being anxious. I needed to confront him. I should have kicked him in the balls instead.”

I stifled a laugh. “I think you’re going to be okay. You should try Nathan’s self-defence classes. Might help you work out some of that buried aggression.”

She winked at me.

“I’m so sorry, Emma,” Chloe said. “I should have figured this out sooner.”

“It’s all right. Fresh start and all that. I suppose I should go back inside and find my mam before she freaks out. She’s going to be embarrassed all of this happened at her work.” Emma frowned at me. “Shouldn’t you be with your girlfriend?”

“I would if I could find her.”

“Whoops.” Chloe looked embarrassed. “I was supposed to tell you. She passed out, so they took her to your place to warm her up. They said you’d know what that meant.”

I didn’t wait. I ran.
