To my surprise, Perdita giggled. “Yes, because that’s the most pressing issue right now.”

I rummaged in the press for a snack. “You left the rest out.”

“What else is there?” Perdita asked.

I whirled around, my mouth full of food. “He’s having a boy.”

“So?”

“So he called it an alpha,” I said grumpily because they weren’t taking things seriously. “His kid isn’t even born, and he’s already declaring it’ll take over the pack.”

She frowned. “Wait. We’ve received a lot of blue gifts from the pack. Is it because they’re expecting a boy?”

“Who cares?” Nathan gestured for me to share.

I couldn’t throw the biscuit packet at him without risking hitting Perdita. I had to walk all the way over to the table, acting like the biscuits weighed a ton.

“Clown,” Nathan said good-naturedly.

“Do you want a boy?” Perdita asked.

“Why? To be alpha?” he mocked. “As long as you and the baby are healthy, I’m happy.”

“He’s staying until the baby is born,” I told her. “You know he’s going to be a nightmare talking about how his baby did everything first.”

“Will he stay? I kind of like the idea of cousins growing up together. Joey and I were always good friends.”

“Who knows?” Nathan said.

Perdita nodded at me. “Why on earth do you look so miserable?”

“Jeremy sucks.”

Nathan snorted. “Very mature."

“Come on,” Perdita said. “We need to stick together. Fighting amongst ourselves only makes us weaker. Margo needs us to get along.”

“Jeremy was a dick about her earlier,” I protested. “And now he’s going to be around for ages.”

Nathan held up his hand. “I know Jeremy can be difficult, but he came here to help. When it comes down to it, we all want to keep each other safe. He’s strong. He won’t let anything happen to Margo, no matter how much shit he talks. I promise you that.”

Nathan wouldn’t lie to me, but that didn’t mean I had to like Jeremy.

I checked the time. “Is it okay if Victor stays over again?

“He’s staying here a lot,” Perdita said. “I’m okay with it, but is something going on?”

“He feels calm here,” I explained. “He gets riled up too easily at his house.”

“It’s a problem,” Nathan said, tapping the table. “These kids need to stay with proper families.”

But what kind of family wanted a risky teen werewolf with no control around them?

“He can stay as much as he wants,” Perdita said. “I’m glad you’ve gotten friendlier. It’s good for you both.”

“Really?” I shrugged. “I feel bad for him sometimes. He seems so lost. He doesn’t think he has a place here. He’s talking about leaving after we solve this stuff with the harbingers.”

“He’s not ready,” Nathan said.
