“Oh, God, if I have to,” she said playfully.

“Then we’ll get ice cream,” he said. “So much ice cream. And anything else.” He kissed her full on the mouth. “Anything you want, and I’ll provide.”

She tapped his nose. “All right, wolf. The children are watching.”

“Oh, yeah, I forgot,” he said with a lazy grin.

I exchanged an amused look with Margo. Everybody was high on the connected feeling of security after the run. That could get contagious fast.

Margo and I hung out while my guardians got ready. As they left, Perdita warned Margo not to stay too late. “Don’t want to worry your parents,” she said, but she shot me a warning glance.

After they left, I pulled Margo closer to me on the sofa.

"I should go,” she said reluctantly. “I think Perdita doesn’t like me being alone with you.”

“Stop thinking,” I murmured, sinking my fingers into her hair to pull her close enough to kiss.

After a moment, she drew back. “Wait a second. Why is everyone all,” she waved her hands, “excited or whatever.”

I leaned back against the chair, half-closing my eyes. “Life feels good. The pack is doing well, the alpha’s strong, there’s no tension. Everything feels right and good and awesome.”

“I can feel it,” she said. “It’s so… light. Bouncy, even.”

“It’s because we’re all together here,” I told her. “They act like magic is some weird strange thing, but what else is this if it isn’t magic? The fact you can feel it proves that to me. I love when it’s like this. It feels so safe and secure and the way it should always be. We should make the most of it.” I kissed her again, lifting her onto my lap. “But you can go home whenever you want. I’ll walk you.”

She sighed, pouting a little. “I love it over here lately. I wish we lived closer. There’s always something going on, something new to learn.”

I slid my hand under her shirt, running my fingers up and down her spine. “Are you sure you weren’t scared earlier? If anything gets too much, I can make sure you don’t see it.”

“Not scared, but I was nervous. Jorge is so much younger than Byron.”

“Jorge needed to let his feelings out is all.”

She leaned forwards to kiss me. I immediately flipped her onto her back, carrying on the kiss without missing a beat.

She laughed against my mouth. “Is it always like this after a run?”

“A little. Have to put all of that energy somewhere.”

“You would think the run would exhaust you, not energise you,” she said wistfully, brushing her thumb across my eyebrow with a sigh. “I wish I knew what it was like.”

“In the summer you should come out to the woods with me. We could hang out while the others run.”

“You wouldn’t mind? Wouldn’t I hold you back?”

“Of course not.” I kissed the tip of her nose. “I want you there. I want to share everything with you.”

She pulled me closer for a deep kiss, the kind that made me forget to think, forget everything but her taste in my mouth and her scent in my nose. I wanted more.

She reached for me, then the front door opened, and we both froze. Somebody giggled, so I pressed a finger against Margo’s lips and waited. My nose was confused, too full of Margo, and my brain was still catching up.

Then I heard Amelia’s voice. “Dorian?”

“Uh.” I cleared my throat. “Just leaving.”

“Oh.” She sounded about as awkward as I did. “Me, too. Um, see you later.”

Two sets of footsteps left the house. I caught Margo’s eye, and we both burst into laughter.
