Fifteen

Cash anchored the boat away from a fleet of other boats volleying for the best spot to watch the show. The fireworks hadn’t started yet, so most of the noises bouncing off the water were the hoots and hollers and whistles of partiers on the lake.

The sky was dark. The crickets were singing and winged bugs large and small bounced off the lights on the front of the boat. That left Presley and Cash in the semidark, but she could still see nearly every inch of the boat’s interior, which meant so could anyone else.

“Guess I won’t be changing clothes since I have an audience,” she told her captain.

“You sure about that?” He moved her to the side and pulled open a small compartment on the side of the dashboard. Up popped a privacy panel that stood taller than him and was twice as wide. The lightweight fabric was pale in the moonlight and billowed gently in the breeze. He opened a gap in the fabric and gestured. “Your changing room, miss.”

She eyed the ample private space created by the fabric, “Okay, that was impressive.”

“I aim to please.” His hands on her hips, he followed her in and promised she was about to be more impressed. His lips hit hers and he unzipped her dress.

“How,” she asked between kisses, “are we supposed to maneuver this?”

A whistling sound streaked up high, and because the fabric panels were open at the top, she watched as a colorful explosion burst overhead.

“We’ll maneuver just fine,” he assured her.

She returned his grin and began thumbing open the buttons of his shirt. He kicked off his jeans and she let her dress drop.

“I don’t know what to hold on to.” She scanned the tight, hot and getting hotter space.

“Hold on to me.”

There was a pause as she considered her inability to hold on to him at one point in time. She pushed the thought aside as he shoved his boxers off his legs. She was going to give in to the magic of this moment. And, like a magician, he made her bra and thong disappear.

He wrapped her arms around his neck and then palmed her ass and lifted her. The tip of his erection nudged her center and she gasped. She was wet and ready for him after only a few kisses.

“You’re like a drug, Cash Sutherland,” she whispered against his mouth. “You should come with a warning label.”

“Speaking of, I should probably grab a condom.” He kissed her swiftly. “But I don’t want one.”

“I don’t want one, either.” She stuck out her bottom lip. “I’m—I can’t get pregnant since I’m on the pill. So...”

She was nose to nose with him so she didn’t miss the moment his gaze darkened with lust. “Presley.”

“If it’s safe. Are you? Safe?”

“Yeah, baby, in the way you mean. Totally safe.”

She didn’t think too hard about what other ways he wasn’t safe. He was the bad boy of country music, after all. “Safe” didn’t describe him.

He didn’t give her a chance to overthink before he slipped past her folds and erased her mind.

“That’s nice,” she breathed, hugging his neck.

“Fucking fantastic,” he agreed, lifting her off him before dropping her down. His arms shook with effort as he made love to her standing. She held on as he’d requested, her fingers in his hair and her truncated breaths in his ear. Sweat slicked her chest and she glided against his torso each and every time he slid into her body.

“Do you...want to...put me down?” She didn’t want that. He was in deep, felt too good. She was ready to explode from pleasure.

“Never. Touch yourself, Presley. Help me out.”

She untangled one of her arms and wedged her fingers between their bodies. After a few tender strokes from her own fingers and a few more thrusts from Cash, she found her release.

Her moan vanished under the sound of another firework explosion, the faint smell of smoke tickling her nostrils. She fought for her breath as he found his own release. He groaned into her ear, a deep, appreciative guttural sound lost under yet another firework going off overhead.

“I’m heavy. I can feel you shaking.” The tremble in his arms and legs was apparent.
