“You’d better never stop doing that,” she whispers and then brings her arms around my neck. “Are you ready for your first lesson in PR, Maddox?”

“What is it?”

She casts her eyes to the reporters going apeshit as we stand together like this and then flits them back to me. “If they’re going to stare, at least give them something to stare at.”

And then her lips are on mine, my tongue is in her mouth, and I kiss the shit out of her for the entire world to see.

She’s mine—my girl. And I’m never letting her go.

Chapter25

Penelope

About Seven Months Later

Popcorn goes flying past my face. “Jesus, Jeffrey!”

“I’m sorry,” he says around a mouthful of food. “But did you see that play? Our defense totally slammed Tom Brady to the ground.”

“They’ve been doing it all night,” Nick adds.

“Yes, but if you don’t calm down, I’m going to punch you out, and then you won’t be able to see the rest of the game.”

His face falls, and then Charlotte steps between us. “There’s no need to threaten bodily harm, Pen. I know this is stressful, but they’ve got this. There are only thirty seconds left on the clock, and they’re up by three points.”

I pinch the bridge of my nose. “You’re right. I’m sorry. But if the Patriots get within field goal range, they could tie it up. And then it’s going to go to overtime. They’ve worked so hard for this, Char. They fucking deserve it.”

And I want this for Maddox more than anything.

After we went public with our relationship, I left Edelman PR right away with Charles’s blessing and started my new job as the full-time PR spokesperson for the Los Angeles Bolts. I dove in headfirst, giving my time to a game that I truly enjoyed. And it also meant that I would be able to spend more time with Maddox and the boys during the season.

Charles was sad to see me go, but we both knew it was a professional move I had to make. And I also made the move for love.

When Charles told me it was Liam who sold the picture of us to the tabloids, I knew I had to get my revenge in a way that only I could perfect. With the help of my girls, we came up with a plan to help ruin his day, his week, his month, and even his year.

That was aFriendsreference, if you didn’t catch it.

I’m still wondering how long it took for Liam to discover the dog shit we put in the fender wells of his car. But I know he got the delivery of three-hundred strap-ons to his house because the look on his wife’s face when she intercepted the delivery was priceless.

I may have had a photographer documenting the entire thing. Sue me. He deserved it.

However, I can’t stay mad at the man forever. It was his selfish desire to get me fired that ultimately got me a job that I love more than anything. But a random glitter bomb once or twice in his mailbox definitely helped me feel better sooner rather than later.

Being immersed in football again is something the heart of this small-town girl wanted and needed—along with the man she gets to go home to every night.

He’s kinda hot, loving, and dedicated as well. I think I’ll keep him.

“I can’t believe we’re at the freaking Super Bowl right now!” Damien shouts next to Jeffrey.

“All of my childhood dreams have come true,” Ethan adds as his eyes well.

“You guys are too much!” Amelia shouts through her laughter and then taps my shoulder. “How are you hanging in there?”

“I will feel so much better when this is over.”

Noelle didn’t come today because she gave birth to her daughter about six weeks ago and didn’t want to bring the baby out in the cold. Besides, this stadium is so loud right now I can barely hear myself think, which is probably not a good environment for a newborn.

A whistle draws our attention back to the field as Brady catches the snap, surveying the turf for his open receivers. He fakes a pass, draws his arm back, and then sails the ball down the field in a Hail Mary pass.
