"Hell no! Do not say a word to my sister. If anyone tells her, it will be me. I can handle her when she starts squealing like a toddler." My legs nearly sprint to Aria's door. “I have to get going, I will call you later, okay?"
"Yeah, sure." Aria's face tells me she is not happy with me.
Turning to look Aria in the eye, I tell her, "I did not use you Aria. I enjoyed every moment, and I was the one who brought this all on last night. I need to process how to handle my sister. That is the reason for my reaction this morning. I want to see you again soon!" I call over my shoulder as I walk out her door.
After taking a shower and gathering my composure, I decide to make the brave and candid call to Jenna.
"Hey Eric," Jenna answers on the first ring.
"Were you expecting my call?"
"Sort of. My gut was telling me you would call today," Jenna replies.
"Hm, that is sort of odd. Hey, can we talk?"
"Yeah. What do you want to talk about?"
"Jenna, I need to ask you a serious question. I want you to think it over before you blurt out an answer you regret or do not mean."
"Okay..." Jenna's voice lowers.
"How would you feel if I were to date a friend of yours?"
"Please tell me you are not fucking talking about Aria?" Jenna wails.
"I cannot lie to you. I am talking about Aria."
"Eric! I am not okay with this, and you know why. I have told you in the past she is off limits!" Jenna's voice gets louder.
"Hear me out! Before you begin with your control tactics. You need to listen to me."
There is a long moment of silence.
"Jenna, I like Aria. She and I click. We get along so well and have so much in common. She is not like other girls I have dated. She is smart, funny, and beautiful inside and out."
"You are not telling me anything I don’t already know, Eric. How long has this dirty secret been going on?"
"A few weeks," I nearly whisper my reply.
"A few weeks! And now you are telling me? Why is Aria not coming forward to tell me this shit?"
"Because we all know how your response would be. Just as it is right now. Aria does not want to deal with that. And frankly, nor do I." My emotions begin to spin. "We are all grown adults and I had hoped you would have responded in a more mature way!"
"You want to know why I am so mad and reacting this way? Because Aria is dating Jordan, Michael’s friend. That is why!” Jenna is nearly hysterical.
"What? What do you mean she is dating Jordan?" My voice cracks as I am in shock over this news.
"Yeah, your sweet and innocent little Aria is dating Jordan!"
"How long has she been dating him for?"
"About three weeks. Which happens to be the same amount of time you have been sneaking around with her. You want to be her seconds? I think she and Jordan are getting fairly serious." Jenna's voice lowers.
"Why would she not tell me this?"
"Well, it is clear she likes to keep secrets. She is not the one calling me and telling me about you two, is she?"
"I am having a hard time believing all of this. She has not even mentioned Jordan's name. Why would she hide this from me? Why would she lie to me?" My heart sinks.
