“Sounds like you’re further than I am when I was forced away from Sarah,” Thomas mused. “Maybe this might be easier for you.”

“How is it going to be easier? Isabel’s going to marry a duke. He’s going to pull funding for the expedition if I take Isabel, and I’ll lose my job.” Richard threw up his hands. “How is this going to end up well?”

“You let us worry about that.” Cohen tapped Richard’s thigh with his fist. “Thomas and I will work that out. Right now, you need to think with confidence about the woman you love and make things right before you lose her for good.”

Richard wanted to do that, but he was still full of concern. If this went wrong, he really would have lost everything. He stared at his hands.

“Do you think confronting Galliston will work, Cohen? He’s got more to offer than I have.”

“You have love to offer. You may never be rich, but you can offer what you and she share passionately. And you never know,” Cohen nudged him, “her high birth might open doors for you.”

“That’s not helpful right now.”

“Cohen is right,” Thomas said. “There could be a chance that marrying a viscount’s daughter will be advantageous for you in more ways than you might think.”

Richard glared at his brother.

“I said that’s not helpful.”

“You’ll find it helpful soon.” Thomas patted his brother’s knee. “Now, get your thoughts focused on how you’re going to get Isabel back. I’ll be with you every step of the way. You’re not alone on this.”

That was not something he expected to hear from Thomas after their animosity with each other. But Richard would take what he could get.
