“I’ll just get my bag. I don’t want to keep Bryce waiting.”

Bryce?

“What kind of name is Bryce? He sounds like a douchebag.”

She fires a dirty look my way and brushes past me, ignoring my comment. Her bright pink heels clack across the floor as she strolls to the table to grab her purse. That’s when I notice the entire back of her dress is open, baring enough skin that all my blood rushes straight to my dick. Thoughts are playing in my mind of slowly undoing her from that dress and letting it fall to the floor while I sprinkle kisses around her neck and shoulders.

Get your fucking head on straight, man.

Anger begins to radiate through my bones from the game she’s playing.

“Um, you can’t go out like that.”

“What?” she snaps, her entire face scrunching up.

“What are you doing here, Melanie? What kind of game are you trying to play?”

Her cheeks flame, and her fists clench. “I’m not playing a game, Chase. I’m just getting ready to go on a date. And while I have your attention, let me set some ground rules for tonight.”

I grab the back of my neck, feeling the tension as my blood starts to boil.

“You’re here to do a job, right? So I expect you to do it. Now can you drive me to Simmer, and wherever else the night leads.”

I stand with my jaw clenched, trying to remain calm.

“I’m only agreeing to this bodyguard business, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my life. I expect you to not be seen. My date doesn’t need some big, beefy caveman hovering around.”

She walks to the countertop with a devious smirk on her face, ceremoniously dropping something into her purse. When she steps away, the giant purple box of condoms sitting on the countertop hits me like a beacon of light.

Oh, Fuck no!

“Who is this guy you’re going out with?”

“Um, I don’t think it’s any of your business.”

“I’m making it my business. You’re going to go out with this prick, after what we shared last week?”

Her eyes grow wide, and her face turns redder than her hair. She takes a deep breath and juts out her hip.

“Really, Chase? You’re going to judge me? Well, fuck you.”

She steps in front of me, her eyes burning fire, and if she were any angrier, steam would be bursting out of her ears.

“You drew your line in the sand. So now I’m moving on. I’m going on this date, and if you can’t handle the job, I’d be glad to call Joey and see if he’s available.”
