“Look, Chase…maybe we could go somewhere and talk.”
“Oh, now you want to talk?” he snarls.
“I should have answered your calls. That was wrong of me. I was confused.”
“And now you’re not?”
“No, I’m not.” I shake my head.
He takes the bottle ofJack Danielssitting next to him and pours some into his glass.
“You should go.” He holds the glass up dismissing me before swallowing down the amber liquid like it’s water.
“Fine, I’ll go but not before I tell you how I feel.”
He leans back and spreads his arms wide over the back of the booth, apparently amused.
“And how do you feel, princess?”
I take a deep breath and blow it out with a nervous push. I need to lay it all on the line. If he rejects me, at least I’ll know I tried.
I swallow hard. “I’m falling for you, Chase, and it scares the shit out of me. So I ran, and I’m sorry.” I square my chest at him. “But, I realized I’m nothing but miserable and alone without you. I can’t stop thinking about you, and I’m losing my freaking mind.”
I watch his hardened expression soften. His gorgeous sapphire eyes are difficult to resist.
“When I walked in and saw you, all my doubts melted away. I want everything with you, Chase and I don’t want another day to go by if you’re not in it. I love you, and I can’t go another minute without telling you.”
I shock myself at how easy the words fly out of my mouth. I thought I’d immediately regret saying them, but now that they’re out there, I feel liberated. Chase sits stone-faced as I search him for a reaction. God, he’s gorgeous. I want to kiss those pouty lips and watch his dark eyes light up like the Fourth-of July.
“Look, you don’t have to say anything in return, but I wanted you to know.”
I’m not sure how I expected him to react but all he’s doing is staring at me, motionless, with those piercing blue eyes. My hands are shaking, and my legs feel weak as I spring to my feet. I lean in, inhaling his addictive scent one more time, and place a gentle kiss on his jaw.
