I MAKE MY way back to our table, finding no Gabby and no Melanie. My mind is already reeling from the phone call I just had with Jason, and now I’m starting to panic a little.

“Have you seen Melanie?” I ask one of her co-workers sitting alone at the table.

“Her and Gabriella took a walk to the bar.”

Okay, breathe Chase. They just went to get a drink.

I hurry to the bar and catch sight of Gabby walking toward me looking a little anxious. The first thing I notice is Melanie is not with her, and I’m quickly becoming unhinged.

“Where’s Melanie?” I bark when I catch up to her.

“She wasn’t feeling well, so I was getting her a drink from the bar. I left her on the patio, and now she’s not there. I was coming to see if she went back to the table.”

“Fuck! Show me where she was.”

Gabby leads me out to the patio, and my heart sinks in my chest when we find it empty. In a panic, I search for any sign of her and notice a bench to my right with Melanie’s bag sitting on it.

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”

“Oh my God, Chase, what’s going on?”

I quickly dial Grayson. “We have a problem. I need your help.”

“Chase, what the hell is going on?” Gabby cries after I disconnect the phone.

“We know who’s been stalking Melanie. It’s some guy she used to date. They matched his car from the one that followed her the other day.” I start to pace back and forth trying to figure out what to do next.

“Shit! What’s his name?” she says with a panicked look on her face.

“Tell me!” I growl.

“We saw someone working here tonight. A man she used to date.”

“Fuck, this can’t be happening.” I dig my phone back out with shaky hands and pull up the picture Jason sent over. “Is this him?”

Gabby slaps her hand over her mouth. “Oh my God, it’s him,” she cries. “Do you think he took her?”

I run my fingers through my hair, not having the patience to answer her. I ignore her as I scour through Melanie’s bag, then look around on the ground. “Where’s her phone?”

“Uh, she had it on her.”

“Come on, dammit,” I insist, as I punch the buttons to open up the app on my phone. I visually search the perimeter waiting for it to load. “Are there any other buildings on these grounds?”

“Uh…I’ve only been here a few times. I’m not sure. Oh…wait…I think there’s a pool, past the garden. Maybe there’s a pool house, I can’t remember.” She rakes her fingers through her hair. “Oh God, what if we can’t find her?”

“She’s still on the grounds. Let’s go.”
