We’re now alone in the parking lot. Not surprising, given the hour.

I become acutely aware of Riley’s presence and the butterflies in my stomach are back.

Shit, butterflies. I’m like a girl with a crush.

The air between us is electrifying. It’s so palpable I can almost touch it.

Riley clears her throat, fidgeting with her sleeves. “Now what?” she asks, not looking at me.

“Now, we take back the keys, and relocate to my car,” I reply a little huskily.

Her eyes briefly lift to mine as if affected by my deep voice, but then she quickly drops her gaze again.

“Great. Let’s go.” She takes her bag out of the trunk and I follow suit, letting her walk in front of me. Damn, she has a fine ass, my eyes are glued to it.

My urge to ask her out returns. And suddenly it’s all I can think about. I need to keep moving forward with her.

I’m buzzing all over.

What do I say?

Shit, my mind is blank.

Why is this so hard?

My hands clench into fists, my throat constricts, and I cough to clear it. Riley looks over her shoulder, her eyes kind. “Are you okay?”

“Umm…” Crap. I’m never at a loss for words. Where has my self-assuredness gone?

I plaster a cheeky grin on my face, and she narrows her eyes at me, clearly wondering what I’m up to. Cocking her head to the side, she says, “Go ahead.”

“Can you help me…” God, I really do need help.

Why did I say that? And what should follow this stupid question? Fuck! This girl has me in knots. Why isn’t there a training manual for this?

“Help you with what?” she asks, a quizzical look on her face.

Make me the happiest man and marry me?

Shit, where did that come from?

My stomach somersaults, and I think the blood drains from my head.

“Aiden?”

“Will you go out to dinner with me this weekend?”

Her eyes go wide, and she stops walking.

Okay, no response. Now what?

Say something, Aiden.

“I’d like to take you out. Show you Atlanta a little or the hinterland?” I suggest as she turns to face me.

Why isn’t she saying anything? My temples are buzzing… I don’t like it.

Our gazes catch, and once again, I’m sucked into the depths of her eyes.
