My face must reflect my worry. “At least you know Knox is well looked after,” Aiden tries to comfort. “What else do you miss? What’s in your apartment in Dublin that you would pack if you had the chance?”

I mentally go through each room. “The sentimental things that make a place a home… the pictures of my parents and of Rhi and me. My photo albums. The sweater my parents gave me for my last birthday with them, the keepsake box Rhia made for me just after we met… stuff like that.”

What is going to happen to all my things now? Tiero has paid the rent till the end of my lease. But what then? Perhaps I can ask Rhia to go in and get my personal things and store them at her place. I’d be much happier knowing they were with her.

Just as I finish that thought, Aiden misses a cup on the down-stack, which makes the cups go flying in all directions. Laughing, we collect them and collide with each other when turning to put them back on the table.

His hands go out to steady me as I stumble, my eyes immediately flying to his. They’re warm and sparkly, and I can’t look away. The butterflies awake, wreaking havoc as I get sucked into his dark chocolate-brown eyes.

The world around me is lost… just like me.

As if in slow motion, our heads are moving closer together. My heart jumps in anticipation. The buzzing in my ears is loud as the blood rushes through my body.

No, wait a second… that buzzing sound isn’t from me.

I step back, putting distance between Aiden and me.

Holy shit, that was close.

What am I doing?

Aiden seems as stunned as me, his eyes flickering back and forth between my own.

The buzzing continues and brings me out of my stupor.

“I think that’s your phone.” Aiden breaks the silence, sounding husky.

I clear my throat and, without saying a word, disappear into the bedroom. I’m out of breath, my heart hammering hard in my chest as if I had run for miles. Rhia’s name flashes on the screen. I pick up the phone and clutch it to my chest just as Aiden appears in the door.

“That was Rhia,’ I tell him, not able to meet his gaze. “I need to talk to her before she sends me any more pregnancy books and buys a cot.”

“How about I get us some takeout?” he suggests.

I nod. I’m not sure how to act around him right now. I need a moment for myself to gather my wits.

Though, part of me is glad that he’s going to be back… the other… well, the other knows it would be better if he stayed away.

“What are you in the mood for?” Aiden asks.

Oh, dangerous question. My gaze lands on his lips again, and he licks them unconsciously. Or maybe it’s on purpose. Who knows? The effect is the same. My core clenches as heat floods me. I want those lips on me.

For fuck’s sake, Ella. Rein it in.

It’s not like I’m sex starved… it’s been less than three weeks. I went two years without any before that.

“Indian?” I suggest. My gaze drops to the floor again but lingers for a moment too long on his crotch.

Holy shit, he’s aroused. It’s clearly visible. It does nothing to quench the fire that’s stoked inside me.

“Sounds good. Ice cream for dessert?” he asks, his voice still deep and rumbly.

“Yes, please.” A large tub. I’ll need it.

“What’s your favorite flavor?”

“Mint chocolate chip, please.”

“You’ve got it.”
