“I promise,” Ronin said; hope filling his eyes at her question.

“I cannae live without ye either Ronin and ye ken that. I love ye very, very much,” she said; a tear escaping her eye.

“Then be mine, Edna. Be mine for the rest of your life,” Ronin implored her and she nodded with a smile as tears filled her eyes.

Edna had temporarily forgotten that the entire pub's attention was on them, but as a loud cheer rang out, she regained her focus and looked around in surprise and awe. Ronin grabbed her in his arms and kissed her passionately. It was his love promise.

EPILOGUE

One month later…

The castle had never looked more beautiful. Edna couldn’t believe that the day she had been waiting for so long had finally arrived. She was going to get married to the love of her life in front of the entire clan.

Two weeks ago, Ronin had introduced her to the council members, and they had all accepted her as the lady of the clan. Ronin had wanted to tell everyone about her being the true heir to the lairdship, but she had refused to do so. Doing that would mean she would have been forced to tell her mother the truth as well, and she didn’t wish to put her through any unnecessary pain by bringing up the past all over again. It would benefit no one. The secret of their births would remain safe with them and no one would ever find out. That was what Edna wanted and Ronin had agreed to it.

“Ye look beautiful, my bairn,” her mother commented as she entered the bedchamber. Edna turned to look at her mother with a smile before once again surveying her reflection in the looking glass.

The white dress she was wearing made her look absolutely stunning. It had been made especially for her out of the most delicate lace. While wearing it, Edna felt like royalty. When she first married Ronin in the woods, a large wedding in front of the entire clan seemed like an utopian dream. She had simply been content with what she was receiving, but Ronin had told her that an official wedding in front of everyone was required. Edna understood his reasoning and readily agreed.

“Is it time?” Edna asked her mother, who nodded.

“Yes,” her mother replied. With one last look, she turned away and left the bedchamber with her mother beside her. They quickly made their way towards the castle grounds where everything had been set up.

Edna had wanted to marry at sunset, and when she looked up, the sky was a beautiful pink color. Everything around her was stunning and exactly as she had imagined. Ronin stood at the altar, looking stunningly handsome, from her hidden spot behind the trees.

“Let’s go,” her mother said to her; holding her hand. She remembered how when she had told her about getting married to Ronin, her mother had complained that she didn’t get to walk her down the aisle. Edna had promised her that she would make sure her mother got that opportunity. The time had finally arrived. Everyone stood up to welcome the bride as she walked down the aisle towards the love of her life.

Ronin waited patiently, a smile on his lips. He looked like something out of a dream, and Edna couldn't believe he was hers for the rest of her life. She eventually made it to the altar and came to stand beside him. The pastor who had performed the handfasting ceremony for the first time smiled at them. This time, he seemed ecstatic about getting them married, and Edna could see why.

“I love you,” she whispered to Ronin.

“I love you more,” he whispered back.

Before she knew it, the ceremony was over, and they were announced as husband and wife. Edna and Ronin stood in front of the entire clan, hand in hand, as the new laird and lady. Beside one another, they stood as two lovers who had finally become one.
