He gazed off. “I don’t know. We’ll have to do some research. But as long as you’re there, I know I’ll be happy.”

We hugged, and then we kissed again. Brad made a groaning noise and turned away.

I felt Hunter’s pocket vibrate. He ignored it, so I said, “Go ahead, you can answer it. I don’t want toget in the wayof your business.”

“You’re never in the way, Erica.” But he did pull his phone out. As his eyes scanned the screen, a frown deepened on his face.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

“A buddy of mine just texted me,” he said slowly. “He saw my video, and wants to buy one of your gemstones.”

“That’s great,” I said, although on the inside I was thinking,That makes four sales. At this rate, I’ll be able to quit my brewery job in ten years.

But Hunter shook his head. “He wants to know where he can order one, because when he tried to do it on your website, it says they’re sold out.”

I blinked. “Sold out? There’s no such thing as sold out. When someone places an order, it’s forwarded directly to the gemstone lab. We don’t have any inventory to beoutof.”

Hunter stared off in thought. “I set up the digital store on your website. I remember there being an inventory option, but I didn’t bother messing with it. I left the inventory count at the default maximum.”

“What was the default number?” Brad asked.

Hunter looked at him. “A thousand sales.”

A thousand sales. The thought of selling that many gemstones seemed impossible. But if the website said we were out of stock because it thought we had reached that number…

“Erica,” Hunter said to me while bracing my forearms. “When was the last time you checked your company email?”

Hunter

It had been a whirlwind fucking day.

I was on the flight to Portland—literally sittingin my seatwhile the rest of the passengers boarded—when who should appear in front of me? Brad. The guy who had been screaming at me for fucking his sister twenty-four hours earlier.

“Get up,” he demanded. “You’re not going to Portland.”

“Why are you dressed up?” I asked.

“I was going to work. But I changed my mind. This is more important. Get up, Hunter.”

I was too hungover to argue with him, so I took my bag and got off the plane. He drove me to a bar, ordered two beers and two shots of whiskey, and then we talked things out.

“You have to stay,” he insisted. “You have to go after Erica and make things right.”

“Your entire opinion has changed?” I asked. “You slept on it, and now everything is peaches and cream?”

“Your videos were convincing. To both meandErica. I think she’s in love with you, Hunter. I can see it in her eyes. Are you serious about her too?”

“I am.”

“How do I know that’s true?” he asked. “That’s the only thing I’m hung up on. What if you onlythinkyou feel the same way about her, but in a few weeks you’ll get bored and move on, just like you used to do with girls?”

I fidgeted with my beer glass. “I have proof.”

“Then by all means,” Brad said, “let’s see it.”

So I showed him.
