Taylor made a face. “Uh oh. Serious voice.”

“I’m giving commands.” I turned back to the dog. “Luna? Down.”

Luna obeyed, jumping off the bed. But she didn’t leave. She sat on her haunches and let out a disgruntled husky howl.

“Awrrooooooo…”

“Drama queen,” I muttered.

“I guess that’s why you named her Luna,” Taylor speculated. “Because she howls at the moon.”

I took the glass from her and sipped wine. “Yeah, sure.”

Taylor furrowed her brow. “Is that not the reason?”

“Eh. Sorta, kinda.”

“What do you mean? Where did the name come from?”

Normally, I wouldn’t have revealed this to someone I had just recently hopped into bed with. Hell, I hadn’t even told anyone, not even Dallas. But laying there with Taylor, the two of us comfortable in our nudity together, I felt like I could tell her anything.

“I named her after a character in a book,” I said.

“Really! What book?” Suddenly, her eyes widened. “Wait a minute. You…”

I nodded.

“Luna Lovegood? From Harry Potter?!?!”

“That’s the one.”

Taylor’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “You read the books? Or did you just watch the movies?”

“Read the books first, but yeah, I saw the movies, too.”

“You read all the books?”

I nodded. “Did a re-read a couple of years ago, too. Lots of free time when you’re traveling for road games.”

“I don’t believe you.”

“Okay.”

She squinted with concentration. “Which house are you?”

“Hufflepuff,” I replied without hesitation. “Patience, loyalty, hard work. All of that represents the way I’ve spent my life getting to this point. You’re probably Ravenclaw, right?”

She set her jaw stubbornly. “Okay. Here’s something only a real fan would know. Without Harry Potter, would Voldemort have won?”

Nice try, I thought. I know better than that.

“Hell naw. My boy Neville Longbottom would’ve carried the team instead.”

Taylor gasped. “YOU DID READ THEM!”

“I don’t know why you’re doubting me so much. Like a football player from Texas can’t dream about Hogwarts.” I grinned. “Besides. My girl Luna Lovegood was cute as hell. I’ve definitely got a thing for blondes.”

Taylor playfully shoved me back down into the pillows. I smacked my forehead like I had just had a realization.

“Wait a minute. You’re not a blonde at all. You’re a redhead. Well, damn. I guess this isn’t going to work out after all.”

“Take it back!”

The two of us fell into a pile of tickling and kissing, and we forgot all about our pint glass full of wine.
