“She made them,” they said at the same time.

“But she’s a handful,” Brandon said with a harsh shake of his head.

“That’s polite,” Konrad murmured as Brandon added, “So, we eat fast.”

I looked at the remaining muffins before hesitantly pulling one out and sliding the box back to the center of the island. But that constant twisting in my gut was impossible to ignore as my stare slowly drifted from the box to the large pastry in my hand.

Sparing another glimpse toward the garage, I asked, “What do you mean she’s a handful?”

Konrad muttered something I couldn’t understand, but it was laced with irritation and had Brandon huffing out a laugh.

“Have you met her yet?” Brandon asked, then hurried to add, “You know her. But in the last few weeks, have you seen her? Met her again?”

I nodded subtly as I remembered the day just a week before, my lips pressed into a tight line to keep from saying anything.

Because Scarlet’s friends had patiently let Scarlet introduce them to me, even though they’d clearly already known me. And when I’d turned to the last of her friends, I’d known her name—her nickname—before anyone had said a thing.

Even worse, I’d almost said it out loud before Scarlet had the chance.

I’d been stunned into silence for a second too long before I’d managed to say,“All right. Good to meet you,”to the smiling blonde. Because, once again, I’d been worried about what I’d remember next.

Not to mention, there’d been a clear warning in my bones to step away from LT. And I’d been fucking horrified by the possibilities of why I’d remembered her even over Scarlet.

“Yeah, I met her last week,” I mumbled as I started tugging the muffin wrapper off.

“Then you probably already got a good dose of it,” Brandon began. “She’s—” He glanced over his shoulder when the door to the garage opened and mumbled a curse as he dropped the mostly-eaten muffin onto the island.

“One, two, three, lucky me,” LT said as she came skipping into the kitchen, shoulders quickly bunching up and down in an attempt to continue bouncing her breasts once she’d reached the end of the island we were gathered around.

“Litany,” Brandon said impatiently.

“Aww, look at you guys,” she murmured in a too-sweet voice. “If I would’ve known you wanted to eat my muffin, I would’ve been in here earlier, offering it up.”

“Jesus,” Konrad hissed before letting the last bit of his fall. “Still taken.”

“Still married,” Brandon said, their tones suggesting this was a normal conversation.

I glanced between them before realizing that I’d apparently had a part in it too and gestured in the direction Litany had come from. “You were just with my fiancée.”

“You guys are always so silly,” she said as she began tugging on her boobs, trying to fix her cleavage, then sighed heavily. “Well, I know a lost cause when I see one, and I don’t see one. So, I’ll be back.”

I snatched my arm away when she trailed her fingers over it and watched Brandon twist from her touch when she reached for him as she headed for the hallway that led to the guestroom.

My jaw clenched tight and my stomach in knots as thoughts and worries nearly choked me.

“Handful,” Brandon ground out.

“Delusional,” Konrad corrected. “Why is she such a good baker?”

“She always like that?” I finally managed to ask, the question sounding like broken glass over gravel.

“Always,” they said at the same time.

My head moved in slow wide shakes. “She wasn’t last week. But we were in front of Scarlet then.”

Konrad scoffed. “Well, we wouldn’t know about that. We try to avoid your house if she’s gonna be here.”

I scrubbed my hand over my face and finally managed to tear my stare from the hallway she’d disappeared down. “I wouldn’t have...” I gave a hard shake of my head, struggling to voice the question. “I wouldn’t have—”
