“With Litany?” Brandon asked over me before bursting into laughter.

“Hell no,” Konrad said without a doubt.

“Absolutely not,” Brandon agreed. “You can’t stand her. And one of the things you said to Brian was, ‘I didn’t know.’ I promise you, you’re aware that Litany’s borderline insane and can’t keep it in her pants.”

I managed something close to a nod, but that fear was only growing stronger, gripping at me and making it hard to breathe. “Scarlet know she’s like that?”

Brandon lifted his hands before setting them on the counter, pushing the muffin away as he did. “Figure she does.”

“Bree and Harper do,” Konrad added. “And those girls talk.”

Brandon nodded at him. “He’s right. Scarlet has to.”

I stiffly stepped backward until I was resting against the counter again when a hallway door opened but didn’t say anything else as Litany came bouncing in again.

Talking in blatant innuendo and asking what we thought of different parts of her body—like if we thought her ass was getting tighter—as she moved around the kitchen, making coffee like she’d done it a thousand times.

“Well, unless one of you is going to give me a reason to stay, I need to get going,” she said with a dramatic sigh as she finished fitting the lid onto her travel mug.

Konrad huffed a laugh as Brandon waved toward the front of the house.

When she looked at me expectantly, my knees nearly gave out as that fear exploded inside me. Because I didn’t miss for a goddamn second the way the heat in her eyes changed when her attention shifted to me. The way her hope flared and her longing deepened into something desperate and familiar.

Shit.

Shit, shit, no...

Forcing myself to move, I nodded toward the entrance of the kitchen and gritted out, “Goodbye, Litany.”

“Every time,” Brandon said when the front door shut.

“She ruined the muffins,” Konrad muttered, forcing an amused huff from Brandon.

“I’d say I’ll never be able to eat one of hers again, but...”

“So fucking good,” Konrad agreed on a groan before biting out a laugh. “God damn her.”

I swallowed the guilt choking me and asked, “Thought you said you avoid my house if she’s here.”

“We do,” Konrad said, then hurried to amend, “We try. We never have breakfast here on Tuesdays or Fridays because those are the mornings the girls are working out here.”

“But you seem to know her well,” I said, letting the unspoken question linger as I looked between them.

“She’s always showing up at random,” Brandon explained, gesturing to the pink pastry box. “Dropping off pastries and shit. I don’t think Scarlet even likes her all that much, but she’s Samantha’s cousin, so she’s always around.”

“Do you know who Samantha is?” Konrad asked hesitantly.

I lowered my chin. “Scarlet’s best friend.”

“Right, well, she’s the one we can thank for all the sexually-charged confrontations.”

“Got it,” I murmured as my thoughts drifted and that fear twisted deeper.

I wanted to believe I wouldn’t cheat on anyone ever.

More than that, I wanted to believe I wouldn’t have hurt Scarlet—the girl I’d been so undeniably in love with.

But with each day and each new situation I was presented with, I couldn’t see how this would end without us learning anything less.
