“Do me a favor and just go with it? Aidan is stressed enough right now.” He gave me a grim smile.

Really? What was he stressed about? He hadn’t let on anything earlier. Was he getting cold feet about the wedding? It didn’t seem likely after all this time. In fact, I was sure he was more eager to tie the knot than I was.

I raised a worried brow, but Enzo didn’t elaborate. He turned back to Brianna and tapped her on the nose before pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Stay safe, Princess.”

And then he left.

“What the hell is that all about?”

“Hell if I know. They don’t tell me anything most of the time.” She shrugged, unbothered by the lack of information. I supposed as the only girl in the family, she wasn’t looped in on that sort of stuff.

Well, that would all change when I was fucking in charge.

But I didn’t have time to stress about it now. I would have plenty of time to worry about what was going on after I was married.

I shook myself, turning back to the speaker. I turned it back up to full volume, and we finished getting ready.

Brianna wore a knee-length, green velvet dress low cut in the front. The fabric color perfectly offset her coppery hair and cream skin. Skintight and long-sleeved, she was still self-conscious about the scar that slashed up her arm from her surgery, she looked like a goddess.

My outfit was a pale pink, midi length, off the shoulder dress, but I was already regretting the color choice.

“I’m gonna get it so stained.” I giggled, looking at the pristine fabric in the mirror. It wasn’t going to look like that later.

“Oh hush, you look incredible.” She grabbed her phone, and we quickly posed for a selfie before leaving the apartment to meet the security team downstairs.

When we arrived at the club, the dancefloor was already packed. Rihanna’sPon de Replaythumped through the speakers, the orange and green lights dancing in time to the beat. Bree immediately dragged me through the people to dance, wiggling her hips to the music.

The champagne we’d finished off in the limo was fizzing in my veins, and I was already lightheaded, but that wasn’t going to stop me. I let the music move through my body, throwing my hands up in the air when Rihanna sang‘Put your hands up to the ceiling’.

Okay, this wasn’t so bad. Dancing was exactly what I’d needed.

As the song finished, we moved off of the dancefloor towards the VIP booth where the rest of our group waited. Some were girls I’d met through work while travelling, others were the girls Bree and I had known since childhood, daughters of various associates of Cullen’s.

Security surrounded the booth, five of Cullen’s men who’d been assigned to watch us instead of joining in on their boss’ bachelor party…something was going on.

The rest of the girls dived on the complimentary drinks, but I frowned, watching how tense the men were. Like they were expecting something to happen at any minute.

What the hell was going on?

“Hey, don’t worry about that now.” Bree leaned in and murmured in my ear when she noticed my distraction.

“You’re right.” I smiled at her. And she was. There was nothing to be done tonight. The minutes ticked closer to the wedding, and I was starting to believe it would happen just a little bit more.

She grabbed my hand and pulled me to my feet, passing me a shot in the same move. I downed it, only realizing as the burn licked its way down my throat that it was Sambuca.

“Eww,” I groaned, pulling a face. “That was gross.”

“Nonsense.” She dragged me from the seating area. The booth was big enough that we had our own little dance area, which based on how stressed the guards seemed was probably a good idea.

We began dancing, and didn’t stop until our feet were more blister than skin, and I was so drunk I could barely stand.

The last thing I remembered was a warm body that smelled a hell of a lot like my fiancé, who was supposed to be staying away from me until the wedding, crawling into bed next to me. And then it was dark.
