Iknew she had security. I knew she was safe in the building I paid through the nose for. But something was telling me that leaving her alone was a mistake.

If we were together, less things could happen to stop the wedding… or that was my excuse anyway.

She wanted to keep things traditional, but I figured our tryst in the office earlier had already ruined that so it didn’t much matter if I snuck into her bed now.

I called her security and they confirmed she’d already arrived home, so I had my driver drop me off at her building.

The apartment was dark as I crept through it, opening the bedroom door as quietly as possible so not to disturb her.

She was curled up in the middle of the bed, tucked in with her bright pink sheets and the stuffed dog I’d won for her at the carnival a month ago. I smiled, reaching out to touch it.

She’d been so damned happy when I’d surprised her with that trip… we hadn’t spent nearly enough time together lately.

On the hand that rested on her pillow, the bracelet I’d given her still hung from her wrist.

I’d added a lot more charms over the last few years, including a silver stork. She’d not understood the reference but thanked me anyway.

It was there to symbolize our future. Our kids. The life we were going to share. I’d put it there after the second wedding cancellation just to assure myself it would happen.

It would.

Nothing was going to stop it this time.

Slipping out of my jacket, shirt and shoes, and peeling out of my slacks, I slid under the covers beside her, wrapping my body around hers.

She shuddered as my slightly cold skin touched hers, but soon relaxed into my embrace.

“You okay?” I murmured into her ear, but she didn’t answer. Her breathing evened out and I realized she was dead asleep.

My girl. In my arms. Where she was going to stay forever.

I closed my arms, feeling the weight of the day dissipating as her skin warmed mine and drifted off to sleep.

Sunlight crept around the blind, waking me from possibly the deepest sleep I’d had in a long time.

Just one more day, then she was mine forever.

I looked down at her, her hair tangled around her head, and oh, yes, drool crusted in the corner of her mouth.

My Queen,I chuckled, kicking out of bed carefully.

I didn’t want her to find me here, I knew how much tradition meant to her even if we’d already broken it several times over.

I grabbed my clothes and crept out of the room.

“Eww, cover up brother.” A voice sounded behind me, startling me so much I nearly dropped my pile of clothes.

I turned to find Brianna, hand covering her eyes, standing in the kitchen.

“What are you doing here?” I growled, waiting for her to turn so I could slip my pants on.

“Enzo thought it would be safer if Cait and I stayed together,” she told me, turning, then coming back around when I was dressed. “What’s going on? Why were we nearly outnumbered by security last night?”

“Nothing that concerns you,” I muttered gruffly, striding toward the coffee maker. She’d already made a pot, which I was grateful for, but I had to keep Bree out of my business. At least until after the wedding. The last thing I needed was for her to give Cait a reason to back out of this marriage.

“You’re taking her to get her nails done today, right?” I changed the subject as I poured the coffee, but Bree wasn’t one to back down easily.
