“Bob,” Miles began again, smiling devilishly. “Our girlfriend, Miss Serena Richardson, is no longer employed by this fine establishment.”

“Yes, sir.” The man grinned from ear to ear.

“She’ll be far too busy to work from now on.”

“Indeed,” Bob replied, winking knowingly at the other man.

Serena Richardson had finally met her match.

Epilogue

Afew days after the night out at The Mile High, the three friends met up for a mimosa breakfast. There was only one subject on everyone’s lips—men.

“So!” Serena started once they were one mimosa down and onto their second. “Valentina, are you still working under Ethan Daniels?”

Valentina blushed.

“Valentina Sanderson! You really are working under him, aren’t you?” Alexis exclaimed with glee. She desperately wanted to hear that her friend was happy, and she couldn’t imagine a better match for her than that handsome blonde Dom.

“I mean…I’m under him, but I wouldn’t exactly call it work,” Valentina replied, and her two friends went wild. That was easily the bawdiest thing they had ever heard Valentina say, and they all clinked their glasses together in celebration.

The waitress brought a fruit bowl to the table, and when Alexis caught sight of the bananas it was her turn to blush. The girls all took some fruit and gazed over the beautiful Chicago skyline for a few minutes while they ate, until Valentina turned to Alexis with a curious look on her face.

“What did you get up to that night, anyway? I left early, but Serena mentioned you went off with someone pretty quickly too.”

Alexis shrugged. “A guy from work,” she explained. “I thought he was a jerk, but it turned out he isn’t.”

“Or he is a jerk, but in the exact way that you want him to be, maybe?” Serena asked with a raised eyebrow. Alexis only shrugged, but that was enough to tell Serena that her suspicion about her friend had been right all along.

“Well, I won’t ask for details now, I know you’re new to this scene,” she said, and Alexis nodded in a way she hoped was convincing. “But soon I want to know all about him and what you get up to.”

Alexis hesitated for a moment, then knocked back the rest of her drink and said, “I can give you some details now if you like. You have to come to my place, though…setting is important for this.”

Valentina and Serena looked at each other for a moment, then shrugged and finished their drinks quickly. “Then let’s go. I, for one, am intrigued!” Serena said.

Alexis settled the bill, then all three of them piled into a cab headed to Alexis’s building. She led them up to her apartment, refusing to answer any of her friends’ questions. “It’s kind of a show and tell thing,” she explained, but that only made them more confused and interested.

The three women stood outside the room that Alexis had always told them was the utility room.

“You’re going to make us do your ironing, aren’t you?” Serena said, hands on her hips. “You’ve got my hopes up, and now you’re going to make us do chores, you cruel minx.”

Alexis laughed and shook her head. “This isn’t a utility room. Now, I’m showing you this because I love and trust you both, and my…experiences after The Mile High mean that what’s behind this door is going to become a bigger part of my life.”

“Oh, get on with it!” Valentina said, ever the impatient one of the trio.

Alexis took a deep breath and unlocked the door. She stood aside to let her friends walk inside, and the awed gasps they emitted when they entered the room made her heart swell with pride.

“Oh. My. God. Alexis, you’re a goddess.” Serena practically ran around the room, touching everything she could. “You’re a pirate princess, a filthy wench, you’re a…sub!”

“Yes. And finally I can share this side of my life. I’m so happy!”

Even Valentina seemed impressed. She showed particular interest in the antique furniture, which didn’t surprise Alexis at all, but she was pleased and slightly amused to see her strait-laced friend eyeing the ropes that hung from the rafters.

“If you’ve got a new man, you’re welcome to bring him here sometime, Serena,” Alexis said. “Just be sure to sanitize everything after.”

Serena snorted. “Please. I’ve been into this stuff since before you knew it existed; I know how to behave!” She was definitely going to take Alexis up on her offer, though; she shivered at the thought of her masters lashing her to the beautiful St. Andrew’s Cross.

“I have an idea,” Valentina said brightly. “We’re all in relationships now. Why don’t we have dinner together this weekend, and get to know each other’s partners?”
