Not like this.

“You’ve got me, Sam. But I have a shop to run. Send someone with me if you have to, but I’m going to work tomorrow.” Her fingers wrap around my wrists and hold my hands in place. “But I’ll stay here tonight, and I’ll come back once I’m done if that’s what you need.”

Jesus. This woman.

My mouth crashes down on hers.

There’s nothing tentative or sweet about this kiss.

It’s life and death.

It’s fire and ice.

It’s everything that’s ever been between us in one fucking kiss.

Amelia wraps her arms around my back, her hands resting on the staples from my incision, and the sudden pain is a white heat shooting through my body. When I step back on a painful hiss, she realizes what happened, and I swear she looks like she wants to cry.

“Oh my God, Sam. I’m so sorry. I didn’t think.” Her eyes well up, and our moment is over.

“Soon, Snow.”

She turns away from me and starts going through the medicine bottles on my desk. Once she’s got what she was looking for, she hands me a few pills and a new glass of water.

When I glare at her fussing over me, this feisty woman rolls her eyes. “Fine. I’ll stop for now. Besides, Nonna’s been asking to see you.” Amelia steps away, opens the door, and stands like a sentry, waiting for me to follow her. “Sam,” She turns back to face me, determination shining in her eyes. “I’ll stay. I’ll stay tonight and come back tomorrow night after the shop closes. But I’m going to Sweet Temptations, one way or another. Please don’t make it more difficult than it has to be. Let me go, and I’ll come back.”
