My eyes snap at her. “What?”

“There are ATVs behind his villa,” she says in a voice that’s colder now. “It’s dark. The party guards are gone. You might get a chance to zip past the security checkpoint to town.”

The fact that she has the audacity to smile in a moment like this is jarring. Shemightbe Wonder Woman, after all.

Kai stirs. “He’ll send for us the moment—”

“It might take some time,” she cuts him off. “Archer is drunk. He won’t come to right away. I’ll distract him when he does. Go!” she snaps, irritated.

And we don’t wait, backing toward the door, staring at Archer’s body in disbelief.

This random stunt might be our only chance.

KATURA

I am in deep shit—thethought is loaded with consequences.

I stare at Archer’s body on the floor, but there is no point worrying until he wakes up.

The decision was a reflex. Maybe self-defense. Except I wasn’t the one being attacked.

Nuh-huh.

It was revenge. Definitely. A professional, quickly executed punishment for talking misogynistic trash.

When Callie and Kai take off, I sit on my haunches next to Archer’s body and study him for a minute.

Even passed out, he is intimidating in his brutal beauty. A gorgeous man at my feet. I can’t help smiling at the fact. I wish it would’ve been in a different context. I wonder what it takes to rope in a man like this, to have him swoon over me.

I run my forefinger along his perfect jaw, then brush my fingertips along his lips. They felt good on my neck earlier. I’d like them in other places. But he is just another dick.

I check Archer’s pulse. It’s even.

“Looking good, Mr. Chancellor,” I say, feeling proud of myself, despite choking him out being a dirty and dangerous trick. But I’ve done it many times. Usually with the ones who deserved it or threatened others.

Let’s just say we won’t repeat this with him. Maybe not.

And I can’t help myself—I tap his nose with my forefinger as I squeak, “Pew,” and chuckle.

I don’t have much time. He might come to in a minute or five. If he’s had enough to drink—and hewasdrunk—maybe ten to twenty max.

So I take my time to study the living room.

A radio comes in. “Boss, you copy?”

I locate it on the couch and stare at it in silence.

“Boss, those two from the Eastside. They are heading to town.”

Shit.

I wonder if I should say in a sexy voice that the boss is busy in the bedroom.

No, not gonna cut it with Archer.

I ponder for a moment.
