When I don’t answer, he starts walking backward toward the set, maintaining eye contact. It’s not until he almost bumps into the boom operator that he finally turns around, waving over his shoulder.

“You realize he’s only using you to make me jealous, right?”

My eyes roll automatically at Celia’s catty remark.

“Really?” I start, turning to face her. “I thought he made it perfectly clear earlier he wasn’t interested in you.”

“He’s an actor, Taylor. You saw what he wanted you to see.”

“So are you, an actor that is, but not a particularly good one. Every lie you tell is written across your face.”

“You’re right. I don’t lie well but I don’t need to. I’m not the director’s little bitch.” Brushing past me, she nudges me with her shoulder and then stops abruptly and turns toward me again.

I glance over my shoulder at her and force myself to smile.

“Got a sec?”

Eli’s deep timbre causes a shiver to run up my spine.

“Yeah,” I reply, turning in my chair to face him. “What’s up?”

“Mexican or Italian? I can’t decide.” Lifting my brow in confusion, Eli continues when I don’t reply, “For dinner tonight. Which do you prefer?”

“Oh, I really can’t, Eli. Now that I’m everyone’s assistant my list is growing rapidly. I need to get home and get some work done. It’s too loud here to get anything accomplished, and people are interrupting me left and right today.”

“Everyone’s assistant? Since when?” he asks.

“Since Celia decided she wanted a coffee and I refused to get her one.” I mutter the words low enough that I’m sure he doesn’t hear until I see the smile that begins to spread across his face.

That was a fun conversation with Ansen. I knew I should have just gotten her a coffee when she asked for one. It’s part of my job. However, I wasn’t about to let her treat me like shit one second and then make demands of me the next.

“Are you also my assistant?” he asks, his smile continuing to grow.

“Yesss.” I draw the word out.

“Hmm. Well, I guess I’ll see you at nine o’clock then. And I’m thinking Mexican tonight. We can do Italian tomorrow. Or maybe Thai.”

Eli walks off without another word. Ansen hollers for him just as I’m about to protest.

Damn him.

I’m in deep shit.

Yes, I find Eli attractive.

Yes, we’ve traded some heated glances.

Sure, he brought me flowers. We hung out, once. And then there’s the time he almost kissed me. We were acting. There’s nothing more to it, right?

I think he might be interested in me. He acts like he is, but then again, he’s paid to play a convincing role.

Is there truth in that statement? A little. Then again, there is no evidence to confirm my suspicions one way or the other.

Well, aside from the fact he always seems to find me. At lunch. On set. In the makeshift office I’ve set up for myself in the far corner of the room.

And now he’s using the fact I’m his assistant to trick me into running lines with him. Though, I am getting fed, and since I didn’t touch my lunch, I am rather hungry.

So, as I gather my things and head across the mostly empty lot toward his trailer, I give myself a pep talk.
