And here we go … the fishing expedition.

The mention of Eli’s name causes my heart to skip a beat. The thought of him without his shirt on causing the butterflies to flap their wings. Yet, she has no idea she’s even caused all of this by just referencing him.

Or does she?

Hayden’s still laughing at her lame attempt at a joke when I spot Eli exit the large, garage-style studio doors. He stretches his arms over his head, giving me a peek at the tight, bronzed skin hidden beneath the white T-shirt he’s wearing, and glances around. When his eyes land on me, my feet falter and I stumble.

He must think I’m a klutz with how often I practically fall on my face in his presence.

Righting myself, I notice him walking in my direction and I scramble to get off the phone with Hayden.

“I gotta go. They’re calling my name. Talk later?”

“Who’s calling your name?”

“Um, I’m not sure. Someone.”

“Why do you sound out of breath?”

“I really gotta go, Hayden. I’ll call you later, I promise.”

“Text me when you have a second.”

“Yeah—”

“Hey. Are you okay?” Eli asks, interrupting my conversation with Hayden.

“Oh. My. God. Is that Eli? Even his voice is sexy!” she exclaims as I feverishly attempt to hang up on her.

I’m fairly certain he heard her loud and clear. After shoving my phone in my back pocket, I finally lift my head and meet his eyes. They’re shimmering in the mid-afternoon sunlight, making his pale blues look almost golden.

It’s not his eyes that hold my attention, though. It’s the smirk on his face, telling me he clearly heard what Hayden said.

“So, I have a sexy voice?” he asks as I attempt to walk past him, my head held high.

“I guess so,” is all I say, not stopping to engage him in conversation.

He catches up with me easily, his long stride no match for mine. At over six-feet tall, Eli towers over my tiny five-foot-two frame.

“Don’t you agree with your friend?”

“I guess I’ve never really thought about it,” I lie, keeping my face free of all emotions, my eyes trained forward as we approach the set.

“Maybe you should and get back to me on your decision. After we’re done for the day. In my trailer. We could order some food and run lines for tomorrow.”

“I thought you were hanging out with Celia tonight,” I say before I can stop myself, my voice dripping with jealousy.

Oops.I didn’t mean for him to hear that. Or anyone for that matter.

“Nah. I’d rather hang out with you. If you’re interested, that is.”

I don’t say anything for a few long beats. I can’t answer him. I don’t know what to say. Do I want to hang out with him? Yes. Should I? No.

As we cross the threshold, I veer right but don’t get far when he places his hand on my forearm. His touch is like a shock to my system, every part of me coming alive.

My heart rate increases. My breathing strangled. It’s the ache in my core that has me frozen in place.

Turning to where he’s standing behind me, I stare up at him and wait. “My trailer. Nine o’clock.”
