Or, at least, I’m fairly certain he doesn’t. His reaction to me in the truck when I first got in was like he was looking at a stranger. One he thought was hot, but still, a stranger.

“Oh, I’m sure he remembers meeting you, Alexis. How could he not?”

“Pretty sure he doesn’t see much past his giant ego.”

Kendall laughs as she stands and gathers the blanket we were sitting on, wrapping her free arm around my shoulder. I miss living next door to Lo and Kendall. We were all so close that first year. We still are, but sometimes it also feels like we live in two separate worlds that on occasion intersect.

“Don’t let his ego ruin your night. If nothing else, he’s pretty to look at.”

That’s the problem. I enjoy looking at him. His smile does things to me even when it’s not directed at me. And if I’m not careful, my resolve will crack, and I’ll be falling in bed with the notorious Graham brother.

He’s a risk I’m not willing to take. There’s too much at stake for me.

“Until he opens his mouth,” I say even though I don’t believe the words coming out of my own mouth.
