"Sorry. Thanks, man. I'm fucking starving," he replies, the words muffled by the large bite in his mouth.

"Didn't your woman feed you today?" I joke, laughter filling the room.

"First day of classes. Haven't seen her since this morning." Swallowing hard, Declan takes a pull from his beer. "We overslept, and she ran out before I could even put my shorts on."

"I watched it happen. It was hilarious. She sprinted toward the front door and didn't even give him a kiss goodbye," Micah says with a grin.

"Fuck you. You almost made Alexis late, so you have no room to talk."

Micah growls, and Max steps between them, shifting the conversation to lighter topics. Frat stuff. Parties we're throwing. Our first official meeting of the semester is coming up this weekend. Everything always feels like it happens so fast.

Classes start.

Welcome back parties.

A few weeks later rush week.

Then all the ceremonies and inductions.

Before I know it the semester is almost over, and I've barely blinked.

Only Max and I care about the frat stuff. None of the other guys are members. By choice. None of them give two shits about fraternity life. Honestly, I don't care about it much either, but Kappa Omega Lambda's pretty chill. And with Max at the helm this year, we'll actually make a difference.

He keeps the conversation away from anything that could be related to the girls. All of them. It's not until we're seated at the poker table that someone finds a way to bring them up again. That someone being Brady. The instigator.

"Isn't that Kendall's sorority?"

"I think so," Max replies, keeping his eyes focused on the cards in front of him. "Why?"

"Did you get to choose which sorority we're paired up with this year?" I ask, watching his reaction closely.

Max is normally confident when it comes to all things Kappa O. Which is why he was elected as president of our chapter this year. Right now, the man sitting across from me is anything but confident.

"Nope. Their president chose us to partner with this year."

Every year we pair up with a sorority to co-host 'social functions.’ And I use that term loosely. Yes, some of them are for charity, but most are giant themed keg parties that you need an invitation to get into. We've partnered with the Zetas before, our freshman year. I don't remember much except Max and I were on grunt duty. Being pledges meant we were always elected for the worst jobs. Cleaning up mostly. And being that we weren't legally allowed to drink, a lot of the times we were forced to play chauffeur for the older members after the parties.

"Is she hot?" Brady asks, causing Max to shoot daggers at him, and the rest of us to laugh at his reaction.

This is exactly what I needed. A night where the only thing that matters are the cards in my hands and the people I'm surrounded by. Tomorrow is going to be a grueling day. I have a full load of classes, and then I have to head straight to work. Where I'll meet my new intern who is more than likely going to make this semester hell.
