Now, I need to show her, to prove to her that the happily ever after she wants for me only happens if she's a part of it. And it has to be subtle.

It's going to be a slow process.

I'm going to have to take advantage of every opportunity I get. Since we see each other five days a week, I should have plenty of chances.

The real question is how?

How do I prove to her that this can work?

It's the only thing on my mind as I make my way back to my apartment. The second I step through the door, I find my answer.

In order to win Piper over, I have to break the promise I made to her.

Well, the other one.

I already crossed the friendship line.

"Long night at work?" Brady's staring at the TV, immersed in a rerun of his favorite show, The Office.

I realize I'm about to rock his world, which is why my smile is firmly in place as I drop the bomb on him. "Nope. I was making out with Piper."

No reaction.

None.

He doesn't even flinch.

When a commercial comes on, he finally looks at me over his shoulder and says, "It's about damn time."

"Are you fucking kidding me right now? That's all you have to say?"

"Well, I could ask where she is, why you didn't bring her home, but I was trying to be sensitive in case you left her in the hall."

"She's not in the hall."

"Why the hell didn't you bring her home then?"

Letting out a groan, I drop into the chair next to the couch and fill him in on all the details I've been keeping from him. The internship. Our class. Drinks tonight. Kissing in the car. And her parting words that have me wanting to pull my hair out.

He listens intently, nodding when appropriate. I considered the fact he might not actually be listening at one point, but his show is on commercial again. I'm about to ask for his help when he finally pipes up.

"You have your work cut out for you. She's not going to be an easy nut to crack."

"That's your advice?"

"No. I'm just pointing out the facts. She pushed you away. She only wants to be friends. Her actions may say something else, but her words were clear. Either you can accept them, or you can change her mind. I have a feeling I know which way you’re leaning."

"Damn straight I plan to change her mind."

"And if she still doesn't want to be with you?"

I hadn't thought of that. There isn't a place in my mind where Piper and I don't end up together. There hasn't been since the moment I laid eyes on her.

"Then I guess I'll have to try harder. When you know, man, you know. And if there's one thing I'm certain of in this world, it's that Piper is the one for me. Her soul speaks to mine. My heart beats for her. I can't change that, so I'm going to have to change her mind."

"You're starting to sound an awful lot like Finn, you know that?"

It's supposed to be a dig, but I don't care. What Finn and Lo have is beautiful. If I sound like him, I'm grateful for that. It gives me hope that I'll end up with my pretty girl.

"Whatever."

"So how are you going to change the mind of a genius?"

"She's not technically a genius," I state. "But she's damn smart, so I'm going to need to outmaneuver her. Any suggestions?"

Brady shrugs, pushes off the couch, and looks down at me. "I may have a few."

If Piper thinks my grin is wicked, she would be scared of the one Brady is sporting right now.
