Piper

I'mafraid to move my hand. His massive bulge is throbbing beneath my fingertips. The only thing separating my skin from his is the cotton of his boxer briefs.

When he groaned, my eyes flew open.

The dream felt so real this time. The heat from his body. The grooves on his abs. The coarse hair that’s scattered on his chest, stretching beneath the band of his shorts.

I followed that trail, and it led me here.

To an eye-opening, all too real moment. I wish I could pretend I was still asleep. Casually remove my hand. Roll away from him. Lay perfectly still until he leaves the room.

His bedroom.

How did I even get here? In his bed? Wrapped in his arms?

I have so many questions.

Pretending to be asleep is not an option because he's said my name and is well aware I'm awake. That I'm touching him. That my body is tangled with his.

I take the moment to point out all those things before I start to ask the dumbest question. I couldn't even get the words out. It's obvious we didn't sleep together. I'm fully clothed.

His response wasn't what I expected, though. His voice dropped a few octaves, turning sultry, his promise causing a shiver to run up my spine. My fingers flutter against his manhood, and he groans again.

"If you keep doing that, I'm—"

Jumping out of his embrace, I remove my hand from his shorts and scoot across the bed before he can even finish his sentence.

"Piper, I—0"

"How did I get here?"

"You fell asleep in my car. I didn't want you driving if you were that tired, so I brought you back here." Adjusting the covers over his crotch as he moves to sit against his headboard, my eyes dart between his lap and my hands that are clasped in front of me. "Nothing happened. I promise. I took your shoes off and tucked you in. That's it. You must have rolled over in the middle of the night."

Great. Even when I'm sleeping, I find a way to gravitate toward him.

"I'm sorry."

"For what? I told you weeks ago that this is what I wanted. Waking up with you in my arms was pure heaven. And that was before you started exploring." Julian wiggles his eyebrows and chuckles to himself.

I can't help but laugh with him. "Yeah, sorry for that too. I didn't mean to accost you in my sleep."

"I don't think you had a choice. Unless there's another Julian starring in your dreams."

My soft laugh dies in my throat at the mention of my dream. It was a good one. Maybe the best I've had since they started. We were on a date. Parked in the middle of a field. Cuddled in the back of his Rover under blankets. I was wrapped in his arms as we stared at the stars. He slowly stripped me out of my clothes as his lips explored my body.

His head dipped between my thighs…

Shaking away the thoughts, I stare into Julian's mocha eyes and contemplate how to explain what he heard.

Lex's words from before work yesterday slap me across the face, and I immediately know what I want to say.

Just because they couldn't make it work anymore, doesn't mean you won't find someone to make it work with.

I don't want you to let the one slip through your fingers because you've lost hope.

Julian could be the one. The chances are slim, but I'll never know if I don't try.

"It was you. It's always you," I confess after a long stretch of silence.
