Our annual Halloween Costume party. For the first time the party isn't at our house. I can see why Max is frustrated. It's the best party of the year. Everyone dresses up. There's always a theme. And there's no guest list, so everyone comes.

Because it isn't about who's part of the Greek life and who's not. On Halloween, you can be whoever you want to be. We're all Greek. We're all equal. And this year’s theme celebrates the fact that we're all superheroes.

"Do I still get to be Thor?" I ask, knowing that the costume I ordered should arrive any day. Including a blond wig that I plan to rock. Piper was supposed to dress as Jane Foster, though I doubt she wants to wear a couple’s costume anymore. Or even go to the party at all if she knows I'm going to be there, considering she doesn't even want to be in the same room as me.

"The theme hasn't changed, just the location."

"Why?"

"To punish me," he mutters before saying louder, "Because she claims they have the bigger house."

Which they do, but I don't point that out.

"And your punishment is to take away our favorite party? Isn't that punishing all of us?"

"No, it's my punishment for supposedly sleeping with a few of the girls in the house. Needless to say, Cleo wasn't happy, and neither were a few of the other girls when they found out."

Well, well, well. Maxy isn't the good little president he wants us all to think he is. Which means he gave in to her request as a bargaining chip to keep his reputation intact. Smart guy. Even smarter girl. She has him by the balls. Literally.

"I've been officially cock blocked by Cleo, not that it matters. She has no idea what she's talking about."

Or she does and he's playing it off, so I don't interrogate him. If he only knew I had better things to do with my day and more important shit on my plate. Like my own love life. Or the fact that it no longer exists. The longer I stand here and talk to him, the greater the chances are I won’t win her back.

I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket and resist the urge to reach for it. It’s not going to be Piper, so whoever is trying to get in touch with me can wait.

"Well, since you're now abstinent, maybe it's a good time to focus your efforts elsewhere." It's meant to be a joke, but I'm the one who feels like he's been smacked in the face. Because I could be talking about myself.

My phone vibrates again. I ignore it as I say goodbye to Max and ponder my comment.

Am I riding the abstinent train now too?

Has Piper written me off already? After one fight?

Not my pretty girl. No way.

I just have to find a way to prove to her that we belong together. To convince her to give me another chance. And in the process, get her to forgive me for being a self-absorbed idiot.

Staring at the entrance to Piper's dorm, I contemplate going inside and asking which room is hers, pounding on her door, and begging her to talk to me. Realizing my plan sucks, I tuck my tail and head toward my car. My phone starts to vibrate again just as I'm about to open the door.

Pulling it from my pocket, I find three waiting text messages from Alexis.

ALEXIS: Saw her running across campus. Looked like she was crying. What did you say to her?

ALEXIS: If you don't answer me, I'm not helping you anymore.

ALEXIS: You're on your own. Micah told me not to get involved. I should have listened to him.

My hands shake as I text her back, a plan formulating as my thumbs tap the screen.

ME: She wouldn't talk to me. Wouldn't even look at me. Ran away from class as soon as the professor said for us to work with our partners. Guess who her partner is? ME! I haven't apologized because she's not ready to hear it yet. She seems hell-bent on not working this out, but I know we can. I'm not ready to give up on us. I said that to her this morning, and I still mean it. So here's what I need you to do...

Alexis agrees to keep helping me only because she loves my plan. She might have said a few choice words I never thought would come out of her mouth—or that she would ever type over text—

before agreeing, but she's as committed as I am to winning Piper back. Which is good because I'm going to need all the help I can get.

Starting with my frat brothers.

As I lean against my driver’s side door, I start typing out our story. The only person who knows anything about me and Piper, aside from Brady, is Micah. But even he doesn't really know how it started.
