Leo

"Areyou going to talk to me or not?" Tandy's voice is shrill. I used to think it was the sweetest sound in the world until I realized the little lift at the end was her tell.

That lift meant she was lying to me.

"I'm texting my girlfriend. You can wait."

"Why isn't she here right now?"

"Because she's home with her family. She'll be back later tonight."

Not that Tandy deserves any kind of explanation from me, but she refused to leave. If I'd known she was on the other side of the door when I heard a knock, I wouldn't have answered. Of course, I'd hoped it was Evie. I'd just hopped out of the shower and was about to crawl in bed and text her back.

"So let's talk then. You can talk to her later."

"You are not my priority anymore, Tandy. She is."

"I used to be your number one priority," she quips, laying across my bed.

"That was before you decided to screw my best friend behind my back, get knocked up, then abort a baby that was potentially mine without talking to me about it."

The smile on her face falls, but she recovers quickly.

"The baby wouldn't have been yours, Leo. If it had been, I would have kept it."

"And why should I believe that? You lied to me for months. You chose him over me. And now you're saying it wasn't mine, but if it had been, things would have been different? No, Tandy, they wouldn't have been. At some point, the truth would have come out. The only difference is I would have broken up with you instead of the other way around."

I don't even know why I'm having this conversation with her. I don't want to rehash the past. I don't want to think about the what-ifs or what-could-have-beens. They don't matter. Shit happened the way it did. It's done and over with. I'm not looking back; I'm focused on my future.

There's a reason the rearview mirror is so small compared to the windshield.

I'm over it. Done with her.

She'll always hold a piece of my heart. She was my first love. The first woman I was ever with. But she also shattered the same heart she promised to care for.

"And what about now?"

"Now? What do you mean?"

"Now that you know the truth. Now that you've had time to reflect. We've had time apart. We've both grown up."

Grown up? Is that what she thinks? We didn't break up that long ago.

"Time apart has been good for me. It's helped me see how wrong we were for each other."

"You don't mean that," she purrs, running her hand down her side as she stares at me. "You can't tell me you don't miss me. That you don't think about me anymore. That you don't wish things had turned out differently."

It doesn't take a genius to catch on to what she's trying to do. The thing is, I know Tandy better than she thinks, and I won't fall for her bullshit lines.

She can try to seduce me all she wants. I never want to touch her again. She tainted me with her poison once. I don't plan on making that mistake a second time.

However, I will take control of this little game and flip it on her.

"You're right, Tandy. I do think about you."

Pushing herself off the bed, she moves to stand in front of me, placing her hand on my arm again, caressing it. The urge to pull away is strong, but I stand my ground.

"And what do you think about?"
