Ah!The joy of torturing Max. It always brings a smile to my face. And the texts coming in from my friends are making me grin like a fool. Everyone is enjoying a laugh at Max's expense.

Does that make me an asshole? Maybe. I'm okay with that, though.

If I have to live in hell right now, he can live there too. Misery loves company, and the company I want to keep won't even grab a cup of coffee with me.

There's so much I want to say to her, but I refuse to lay my heart out for her in a text. When I tell her the truth, I want it to be face-to-face. I need to look into her eyes when I say the words. When I plead with her to understand.

And that's what I plan to do.

As soon as she agrees to see me.

Alone.

Not on campus. Not at the party.

I want her all to myself. And I will find a way to make that happen.

Because the first chance I get, I'm going to take it.

The music is so loudI can't even hear myself think. My skin is already crawling, and we've been here for less than thirty minutes. I knew it was a bad idea to come in the first place. To be around this many people has my anxiety levels skyrocketing, but also to be this close to Mya is torture.

What's worse?

I have yet to lay eyes on my dove.

She's being evasive.

Not that she has to try that hard to blend into the crowd with all the Zetas dressed as Playboy bunnies.

To watch Max's reaction when he first noticed was priceless. If he were a cartoon character, there would have been steam coming out of his ears.

"First, I'm banned from sleeping with anyone in the house. Then, they steal my party. Now they're walking around, barely dressed, and I'm supposed to be on my best behavior? I swear Cleo is the master of torture."

Max's rant falls on deaf ears. I'm probably the only one listening to him, and honestly, I'm not doing it on purpose. My eyes are searching the room for the woman who holds my heart.

"Why don't you tell me what you did to piss her off this time." Julian's question catches my attention. Will Max be honest with him?

"I didn't do anything, that's the issue. Cleo thinks she saw something she didn't. I tried to explain it to her, but she wouldn't let me."

That's close to the truth. He leaves out the fact Mya threatened to reveal his relationship.

"Since when do people not listen to you?"

"She's not scared of me. She's more of a pit-bull than I am."

"Maybe you should sleep with her." Max's face contorts in disgust as Julian attempts to hold back his laughter.

"Fuck no. That girl would chew me up and spit me out. Plus, banned, remember. No more Zetas for me."

The devastation in Max's voice is concerning. Is he really giving her up? That's not like him.

"Who is she?"

I lean in a little closer, wondering if Max will answer Julian honestly.

"Never seen her before in my life, but I'd like to know." Following Max's line of sight, he's focused on a girl dancing on the counter in the kitchen.
