"He didn't talk about her, but he brought me to a place they shared. I didn't know it at the time. He let that slip almost a year later when I asked if he wanted to grab coffee and chat. I could tell the thought of him going in there hurt. When I asked him what happened with the girl, he said he’d waited too long to make his move and she was dating someone else."

Oh. My. God.

He was talking about me. About our place.

"Brady's a good guy. A little mysterious, a little rough around the edges sometimes, and I never know what he's thinking, but he's also sweet, and kind, and easy on the eyes."

I find myself nodding as Kendall continues to list Brady's many good qualities, but my thoughts are swimming.

He waited to make his move.

She's dating someone else.

Our coffee shop. Our place.

"You okay?" I hear Kendall ask. She's standing directly in front of me, her eyes scanning my face.

"Fine, sorry. I zoned out. I didn't get much sleep last night."

That's not a lie. Brady and I laid facing each other, whispering for hours. Talking about nothing at all and everything at the same time. I learned he's an only child as well. His parents sound like loving people. His father is a mechanic, which is where his love for working on cars comes from. His mom is a bank manager. She gave up her career in finance when they moved to Oak Harbor so Brady could go to a smaller high school.

His favorite thing to do is to ride his motorcycle. It helps him clear his head. The wind in his face makes him feel free. He doesn't worry about money or grades or what anyone else thinks about him when he rides.

His drive to be a doctor comes from his experience. He wants to be able to help children the way everyone tried to help him after his accident. He's been thinking about going into physical therapy instead of going to medical school. Less schooling and better hours.

"Mya," Kendall starts, placing her hand on my shoulder. "Are you seeing Brady?"

"Yes."

"Really?" Her surprise has me second guessing my decision to be honest with her. "That was easy. I thought you'd try to lie to me a little at least. That's what most people do when they're hiding a relationship."

"Who says we're hiding?" K lifts her brow and smirks at me. "Fine. We aren't announcing it. I don't think we even know what it is yet. But I do know I don't want it to end."

"The sex is good, isn't it? I always thought he'd be good in bed. There's just something about his confidence. And that ass—"

"Seriously? Do you hear yourself?"

"What? He has a great ass."

"And you have a boyfriend."

"Who also has a great ass. And a giant—"

I place my hand over Kendall's mouth to muffle the rest of her sentence. I don't need to hear about how big her boyfriend’s dick is. There's only one dick I need to worry about. But I shouldn't be surprised Kendall is being blunt with me. She lacks a filter even more than her sister does, and Kora's mouth gets her in trouble more than anyone else in the house.

"Listen," I state, my hand still covering her mouth even though she's not trying to talk. "I have no idea what's going on between us, so I'd appreciate it if you'd keep this to yourself for now." She mumbles something and then reaches up and pulls my hand away.

"As I was saying, I can keep a secret from everyone but Declan. I promised I'd never lie to him."

"Will he keep it to himself?"

"Probably not. I'll ask him to, but being that Brady is his friend, he's going to want to hold it over his head that he knows. Plus, Brady has dirt on everyone, and no one can ever get anything on him."

"So basically you're saying that everyone is going to know in a matter of hours."

Letting out a sigh, I take a seat on the edge of my bed and rest my head in my hands. This is not how I expected today to go. I was planning on pulling Cleo aside, being honest with her so she didn't find out from someone else. Or the way she did. Then I was going to talk with Brady about what exactly we are.

We're more than fuck buddies, more than friends. We're both of those things, yet that's not all. And as much as I don't feel a title is necessary, it would be nice to know how to reference him in conversation.
