"Tellme why you pushed me away."

I'm trying not to beg, but I need to know. Her apology was enough to crack the armor around my heart. The tiny push Evie gave me shattered the rest of it.

Because I want to be with Mya. No matter how many times she might try to run in the future, I'll be here waiting when she realizes her mistake. When she runs back to me twice as fast as she ran away. With the hope that someday she’ll stop running all together.

"I saw you with Evie. You looked ... like you were on a date. And I tried to confront you, but you kissed me, and your kisses make me feel weak. So I just..." She shrugs as if that explains the rest of it.

"Let me get this straight. You saw me with Evie, a girl who's like my little sister, so you jumped to the conclusion that I was cheating on you and when you went to ask me about it, I kissed you and you decided that instead of talking about what you saw, you shut me out. Sound about right?"

She nods, averting her eyes to the ground.

"Dove," I say, pinching her chin and tilting it up until she's staring into my eyes. "There is no one else I want to be with but you."

"But you looked happy. In love."

"Because I am, but not with Evie. I'm in love with you. And I was probably happy because I was thinking about you."

"How was I supposed to know that?" she retorts, pursing her lips as she crosses her arms defensively.

She's going to give me a run for my money. This is going to be far from easy, but I have a feeling the angry sex is going to make it worth every second.

"Trust me, dove. You have to trust me. The same way I trust you. Because when you love someone, you give them the trust they deserve until they give you a reason to take it back. Which I never plan to do."

I'm not oblivious to the fact that I've now told her I love her twice in the last thirty seconds, and she hasn't said it back.

This is one of those times when I need to hear her say it. To confirm what I already know. Because the way she's looking at me leads me to believe that she feels the same way about me.

"I do trust you."

"And?"

I'm leading her, yes. I know this. I also know she won't say it if she doesn't mean it.

"And that's all you're going to get tonight."

Oh, she's playing hard to get. I'm going to enjoy this.

"That's fine. We can play this game if you want."

"What game?" she asks as I slip my hand between her legs, the heat from her core warming my fingers through the denim of her jeans. "Are you going to at least play fair?" she moans as I apply pressure.

"Not even a little."

Thirty minutes later, Mya's screaming my name, promising to love me for the rest of her life, if I give her what she wants. And when I ask what that might be, she smirks and points at me.

She already has me, but I don’t point that out.

This isthe second time in a week I've worn a collared shirt, and it will be the last time for a while if I have my say. Tugging at the material that's attempting to strangle me, I spot Max watching me from across the room with a smug grin on his face.

Bastard.

"You know you can always undo the top button."

"I know, but you said I looked hot last week when I wore this same shirt, and I wanted to look nice for you tonight. The button stays."

Mya introduced me to her parents on Christmas Eve. Well, her entire family actually. And there were a lot of them. She warned me, but I insisted that it would be okay. How many people could it be?
