“You know that ankle isn’t going to heal if you keep testing it,” I state as I help her over the lip of the tub and sweep her into my arms. Her hair is dripping on my shirt, soaking the shoulder, as her entire body shakes.

“It felt fine this morning when I got out of bed. I wasn’t even limping.” Her words are defensive, but her voice is soft as she stares up at me.

The desire to kiss her overwhelms me as I stand in the middle of the bathroom, her body pressed against mine, the scent of her shampoo wafting around us. The sexual tension between us grows as neither of us speaks, the words unnecessary as we convey everything we’re feeling with just our eyes.

I want her.

She wants me.

There’s no doubt in my mind.

“You can put me down now,” she says after a few minutes of silence at the same time we hear “You guys ever coming out of there?”

Mya.

I completely forgot she was even here for a minute. Which is ironic considering she was the reason I came in here in the first place. To hide. Not that it did a damn bit of good considering it sounds like she knows I’m in here.

“Just a sec,” Scarlet calls out.

“Do you want me to carry you?”

“I’m soaking your clothes. I can walk.”

I’m not worried about my clothes. Not even a little bit. Which is why I turn with her in my arms and walk over to the door. Scarlet reaches for the knob since my hands are full - happily full I might add since they’re currently gripping her knees and her waist – then pulls it open to reveal a very intrigued Mya.

“I’m not sure who’s more surprised. Me or you guys. If I hadn’t left my phone charging on the counter last night, I wouldn’t have even stopped over this morning.” Mya waves her phone in front of her as she speaks, her smile growing with each word. “Anything you want to share with me, Scar?”

“Colt was just helping me.”

“Helping you…” her voice trails off, waiting for Scarlet to fill in the blank.

“I came to check on her ankle last night, scared the shit out of her, she fell trying to defend herself from an intruder, so I stayed to make sure she was safe, and her ankle was okay.”

“Aren’t you a knight in shining armor,” Mya jokes, covering her mouth to keep from laughing.

“Something like that. She also almost fell getting out of the tub so it’s a good thing I was here,” I point out. I’m not sure why but I feel the need to validate my presence.

“You two can stop talking about me like I’m not even here, you know.” When I chance a glance down at Scarlet, her arms are crossed over her chest and her bottom lip is protruding as she pouts in my arms.

“We could,” Mya starts, taking a step toward us and patting Scarlet on the head, “but it’s more fun this way.”

Scarlet slaps her hand away.

“Have fun you two,” Mya calls over her shoulder as she heads toward the stairs. “I expect a full report when you get back, Scar.”

“Girl code!” Scarlet yells after her but Mya doesn’t even bother to reply, the only indication that she even heard Scarlet is the falter in her step as she reaches the top of the stairs.

A little growl crawls up Scarlet’s throat that’s so cute it has me thinking about kissing her again.

Who am I kidding? Everything she does makes me want to kiss her.

Setting Scarlet on the edge of her bed, I close the door behind me so she can get dressed without an audience. The last thing I want her to do is fall again because she’s trying to put clothes on and keep that damn towel wrapped around herself at the same time. Though I did offer to stay in the room and turn my back.

She declined my offer.

So instead, I’m standing outside her bedroom door, listening intently in case she needs help. Which she never does.

After carrying her suitcase to her car and starting it so it’s warm when she gets in, I head back inside the Zeta house to find her frowning as she puts on a pair of boots with two-inch heels.
