“Can we talk it over?” I finally ask as I feel Scarlet slide up next to me, wrapping her arm around my waist.

“Of course.” Pulling his phone from his back pocket, Darrien taps the screen a few times before offering it to me. “Put your number in and I’ll call you tomorrow afternoon after sound check. I’ll leave a few tickets for you guys at the box office if you want to come to the show tomorrow night, pop backstage after. We can talk details then.”

Darrien slaps me on the shoulder before walking away. I stare after him, still in shock at his proposal. At the prospect of writing music with a man I idolize. A man who comes from humble beginnings and is living the dream.

“I can’t believe you didn’t say yes on the spot,” Nash says, moving to stand in my line of sight. “Are you an idiot?”

“We need to talk about it first, Nash. We each have a stake in this. It wasn’t my call to make. We agreed a long time ago to vote on everything.”

That’s not why I didn’t accept his offer. The thought of voting never even entered my mind. Now that it has, I turn my gaze to Ace whose eyes are bouncing between me and Nash, unsure of whose side to take.

The uncertainty I see validates my decision not to jump at the chance to accept.
