Chances of him going with her, though … not unless hell freezes over.

My girl can get me to agree to almost anything. She uses her superior negotiation skills to get what she wants.

Like going shopping this afternoon with Cleo which was hell.

But to get Kane to agree to anything … she’s going to need dirt on him. She’s going to have to blackmail or bribe him. And he likes to make sure he’s never caught with his pants down.

I don’t even have any dirt on him and we’ve lived together for the last three and a half years.

The crowd has thinned by the time we finish the second half of our set. Besides the groupies who immediately pounce on us as we hop off the stage, there are only a few smaller groups standing around the bar, and my friends who have taken a recently vacated table in the back near where they’ve been standing all night.

Leaving Nash and Ace to soak up all the attention from the scantily dressed, giggling groupies, I move quickly toward my friends. Max and Gia are having a hushed conversation, their foreheads pressed together, while Kane is vigorously shaking his head back and forth at whatever Scarlet is saying to him.

Even with his sunglasses on, I’m aware of the moment Kane notices me. His head stops shaking and he stares in my direction. His lips curl into a smirk the closer I get. I’m only a few feet away when I feel a hand land on my shoulder.

“Hey, man. Got a sec.”

Turning, I’m shocked when I come face-to-face with the lead singer of Seven Underground. They hit the scene about a year ago, and their career took off like wildfire. They have a unique sound and songs that people can relate to.

Seeing him here, in this shithole of a dive bar, has me shook. And you can hear it in my voice.

“Darrien Hock?”

“The one and only. And you’re Colt Goodman, lead singer of Fade Into Nothing. You guys put on one hell of a set tonight.”

It takes me a minute to get over the shock when he extends his hand to me. Shaking it, I thank him for his praise.

“What are you doing here?” I ask.

“We’re playing the arena this weekend. Just rolled into town tonight. There were already fans swarming the hotel, so we decided to grab a beer and wait them out.”

All I can do is nod. I’m standing before a rock god. I’ve been listening to Seven Underground since before they hit it big. Darrien’s from a small town here in Michigan. He had a similar upbringing to mine.

The fact he was able to make something of himself in this industry has always given me hope.

“I doubt anyone will be looking for you here. This place isn’t exactly a destination for rockstars.”

Darrien throws his head back and laughs, loud enough he draws the attention of everyone in the bar, including Nash and Ace. When Nash recognizes him, his mouth drops open and he disentangles himself from the two girls wrapped around him, quickly moving to join our conversation. Ace is hot on his heels.

“Darrien, I’d like you to meet my bandmates. This is our drummer, Nash, and our bassist, Ace.”

The guys shake hands with Darrien, both looking like they have stars in their eyes. Which they more than likely do. I know I do.

“So there’s a reason I came over to talk to you,” Darrien starts, turning his attention back to me. “We’ve been trying to come up with some new material, and it hasn’t been going that great. After watching you guys tonight, I was wondering if you might like to collaborate, write together while we’re in town.”

He wants to write with us?

We’re nobody. We have a small following and can barely book enough gigs to make a living off our love of music.

This could be huge for us. It could be just what we need to get ahead. Writing with a group like Seven Underground could put our name on the map.

Or it could backfire completely. If people don’t love the songs, they won’t fault Seven; they’ll put the blame on the three of us. Any chance at a career in this industry could be destroyed before it even has a chance to begin.

That’s what scares me the most.

Losing out on the one shot we might get.

Nash, Ace, and Darrien all stare at me, waiting for an answer. Only I don’t know what the right decision is to make. I want to jump at the chance to work with Darrien and the rest of the band. On the flip side, it scares the hell out of me.
